Triumph 1300 TC front wheel drive. I have been looking for a decent one of these for ages, but restoration to one of my other cars has meant I need to reduce the fleet. I've not owned this one long, but it really seems to be a special car.
Finished in Signal red with black interior, the car seems amazingly solid and free from welding. it has its original sills and as far as I can see, arches. I have only found 1 piece of welding, near the battery on the inner wing. The back edges of the inner wings are solid, as are the inner wing supports - I've put my hand upto the mud shelf and there is no issues. The wings look original too and no signs of bodging around this mud trap. The chassis rails front and rear of the subframe have not been touched and are as solid as ever. The only areas I would consider would need some improvement is the front lower valance, which has some corrosion, but is certainly not beyond repair and is not structural. There is also an area towards the back of the osf wing which could do with tidying. The chromework is very good and complete. T
Interior-wise the car is also in excellent order. It has had a new set of carpets (not a surprise aver 41 years) and they are of a good quality and fit well. The woodwork is in fair order, with the normal issues on the door cappings, but they all appear to match. The dash is complete and retains all its original switches and functions correctly. The choke has been replaced at some time, but I am advised that they original type are readily available ( I have not got around to ordering it yet) There is some wear to the drivers seat but it is not split and I do know the location of a spare if required. Paintwise, it appears mostly original, sit some bits that have been done. Very presentible. Someone has fitted door mirrors at some time (a 1970's thing where you fit door and wing mirrors to avoid blind spots) but these have been removed in the past and black grommets fitted
There are receipts with the car for an engine rebuild some 30, 000 miles ago, where someone decided to either have the speedo replaced or zero'd (looks like replaced as the digits are in line). The previous reading was c 74, 000. The previous owner experienced a problem which can be a failure of the triumph ohv engine, where the crankshaft thrust washers have dropped out. He subsequently replaced the crankshaft, with a new old stock unit, and new shells. The engine is very sweet, as the 1300 engine should be. The gearbox is a bit stiff in 2nd and 3rd, which I am advised is a gear lever bush issue, but have not had chance to look. When I bought the car, it had been fitted with larger carburettors (hs4 or 6) but I have obtained the original carbs and manifold for the car and it runs much sweeter. The car has a stainless steel exhaust
NOW FOR THE REALLY INTERESTING BIT!
This car is supplied with a heritage certificate, showing it is in the last 100 built of this car. I have driven plenty of Triumph saloon products including spitfires and gt6 and this is really something special - its quick! Clearly someone has done some careful work as it outruns a spit 1500! However, I can see no obvious mods! It also drives extremely well, with no pulling, wallowing or anything. This was also the model that the 4wd rally cars were based upon, and if you wanted to re-create one, what better vehicle to start with! The gearboxes are readily available from Canley Classics!
I really want to keep this car, but with things as they are with my other Triumph at the min, I need to make a sacrifice, so someone will bag a bargain.
