VW KARMANN GHIA 1969 - CALIFORNIAN IMPORT
My Karmann Ghia is a 1969 model coupe with towel rail bumpers, bullet indicators and a 1500cc twin port engine. It was imported to the UK in 2001 from San Jose in California personally by Mason Hogg of the Karmann Ghia Centre in London and was subsequently sold to a school teacher of Canadian origin. I purchased the car from said school teacher in 2002 as he was returning to Canada. He had used the car for the intervening year as his daily driver. I brought the car to Northern Ireland in 2002, it has been in my ownership since and it has always been dry stored in a garage.
Shortly after I bought the car I had it repainted in Jaguar red. I saw the colour on a Karmann Ghia at the Volksworld Show and although not an original VW colour it was so striking that I decided to have the car rubbed down to the bare metal and re sprayed (I have all the photos).
My spray painter spent months sanding and priming before laying on the top coat commenting all the while that he found practically no rust. The entire car was re sprayed save for under the bonnet which remains the original orange colour.
The interior is a black vinyl and black carpet mix and is in need of some refurbishment. I have never had time to do this and so an opportunity presents itself to the new owner to choose and fit a whole new interior.
The car only does about 200 miles a year as it is garaged and only comes out on a sunny day. It has been serviced regularly by me (plugs and oil changes) and has had an MOT for practically all of the 10 years I have owned it. The current MOT expires 4th October 2012. The car currently carries a valid tax disc although it costs nothing to tax.
Whilst this car has given me many hours of pleasurable and head turning days out I no longer have the time to invest to keep it in a state that it deserves.
Please e mail or ring but be aware I will not answer withheld numbers. Please also be aware that this car is located in Northern Ireland.
Many thanks
