Up for sale here is my first car; a very handsome 1998 Volkswagen Beetle, 1. 6i. The car is a late model Mexican Import which gives it some nice features, namely:
• Electronic Ignition and engine management – No need to adjust your distributor and allows for diagnostics! Diagnostic lead will come with the car (OBDII to USB).
• Electronic Fuel Injection – No need to adjust a carburettor anymore.
• Electric Heated Front and Rear Screens.
• Catalytic Converter – Changes the exhaust note to a nice deep tone. A new one was put on in January and they are VERY expensive new!
• Screw on Oil Filter – Additional modern filtration for engine oil, rather than just the strainer.
• 12V Electrics.
• Full Chrome Pack.
• Disc brakes on the front wheels for additional safety, rather than Drums.
The car was originally converted to RHD by the importers (Beetles UK), drives very well, is quite nippy and gets a good mileage. The Beetle also has some upgrades and accessories:
• Australian Import rear Venetian Blind
• The original poor quality Mexican heat exchangers have been swapped for Original High Quality German ones.
• Has been lowered at the front using CB Dropped Spindles and an Adjustable 2” Narrowed Beam. CB performance lowered anti-roll bar included with sale but not fitted.
• The original VW Golf front seats have been swapped for period seats.
• Thule Surfboard rack also available if you want it!
The car has been sat unused for a year in the garage unfortunately, and has the following cosmetic defects. I aim to be completely honest about the cars condition; these are the things I would have sorted if it were not for time and funds, but perhaps I am overly critical when it comes to these things! Remember she is 15 years old and has been enjoyed thoroughly. The following issues are cosmetic and don’t affect the driveability of the car.
• Rust bubbles on the rear drivers side wing, rear valance and very bottom of the drivers door.
• Usual stone chips to the bonnet.
• Mark on the passenger side rear wing
• Scrapes to the very underside (i. e. not visible unless you are under the car) of the front apron due to the cars lowered stance!
• Missing Beauty Ring for one of the wheels.
• Passenger side mirror and mooneye hubcaps are Brazilian chrome and are prone to surface rust. They clean up easily, but they could be swapped for OEM German items.
• Drivers seat is a little tatty.
So in summary this is a very eye-catching Beetle with all the modern necessities, with a few cosmetic issues. I used it as a daily driver for many years and it always got me from A to B in style! I am upgrading because we have a new BMW in the family and the poor bug has taken a back seat. I would like to see it used again. Insurance is cheap through Adrian Flux as they specialise in Imported and Modified unusual vehicles. The Beetle will have a fresh service before sale and 6 months tax. MOT is due in November. Also comes with an extensive service history and original manuals.
