Launched in 1992 the W140 was the first ever Mercedes to feature a V12 engine. This incredible vehicle is often referred to as the last Mercedes to be ‘over engineered’, a Mercedes trait that was costing the company in product delays and over budgeting. According to one publication, this action reportedly caused project overruns and resulted in the departure of Wolfgang Peter, Mercedes chief engineer. This vehicle is believed to have cost Mercedes-Benz over $1billion to develop.
