Description
Good fun, reliable early Mk1 car. It is a very honest low mileage car showing 48000 miles on the clock (believed original), running on its original engine, with good 50lbs oil pressure. The gearbox is lovely and sweet with no synchro issues.
The car has been converted to alternator and Petronix electronic ignition for daily use, (original parts with car)and has had a new genuine SU fuel pump fitted and the carb rebuild with new seals, needle and jet.
The previous owner has rebuilt the brakes and during my ownership the car has also benefitted from rebuilt suspension with polybushes, refurbished rear dampers and rebuilt front dampers. The fuel tank has been removed, cleaned out and painted. The body underneath this was taken back to bare metal, red oxided and undersealed before replacement. The rest of the underbody is sound and no structural welding is required.
I have recently fitted a new stainless steel exhaust, bespoke made with a Riley 1. 5 tail pipe and back box for a much nicer exhaust note and improved economy! The wheels were powder coated and four new radial tyres fitted approx 5000 miles ago. The car has also had a new brake master cylinder, rebuilt clutch slave cyliner, new outer door and boot seals and a new water pump and rear axle seals. I also managed to find a new gearstick gaiter, which are as rare as hens teeth.
The paint is mainly original and has lost a little of its lustre but is still presentable. The front panel and wings are still steel, and the rear arches are sound. The duotone interior and carpets are also the originals, they are sound and presentable although there is a tear to the drivers backrest.
Having improved the car, it has been my reliable daily transport for close to two years. I have covered a very enjoyable 12000 miles in it, which included an 1100 mile round trip in France at an average of 41mpg with no problems!
