Descrição

This late model Junior, although a '1932' model, was in fact first registered in July 1931. 1932 was the last year the Junior,(first introduced in 1926) was produced. The 1932 Juniors were much updated, using a much worked-over engine incorporating a stronger and pressure-fed crank, and an improved 'silent third' gearbox, together with a stronger chassis. The axles and braking gear were virtually pure 'Junior', but 18" Magna type wheels were used. In fact, they were more or less early Singer Nine in specification but keeping the Junior's 848cc 8hp engine. Singers offered a 2-seater tourer, a 4-seater and a saloon on this chassis.

The car advertised started life as a saloon, but came into my hands as an absolute wreck. The body had been comprehensively hacked about, and was very incomplete. I decided to re-body it as a tourer, and based the design on an 'artist's impression' published in Davidson's 'Book of the Singer Junior' 1933 edition. A copy of the illustration accompanies this ad.

The engine is converted to lead-free, and has been re-bored. The electrics have been converted to 12-volt, and use a voltage regulator rather than a straight cut-out, and work well. The dynamo was rebuilt, as was the speedometer. The car runs very sweetly, has a slick gearbox, pretty good brakes, accurate steering and a surprisingly nippy performance. It will cruise happily at 45-50mph; I have been reluctant to go any faster than 55, but I would expect a terminal velocity of around 60!. The hood is new (by Stephen Grundy od Warton, nr. Preston).
The body has been made in the correct traditional manner using aluminium panels over timber framing, and is finished in cellulose. The wings are steel. The upholstery is vinyl over foam inner and surprisingly comfortable, and the floor is covered in ribbed rubber matting.
The reason for sale is that I need the space for two further 'Junior'projects and a 1926 Jowett project. I have previously rebuilt three earlier Juniors, and am the registrar for this model for the Singer Owners' Club, so I know them pretty well!
