Delivered to Park Ward on May 9th 1960 chassis BC88AR was specified with a heavy gauge frame, power operated hood and power assisted steering, 1 of just 63 RHD S2 continental's to wear the London firms elegant 'jet age' drop heads 'styled by Vilhelm Koren to design number 991' registered on the 2nd December 1960 supplied by Clyde Autos of Glasgow to shipping magnet Hugh. C. Stonehouse OBE., it also spent many years in the USA, chassis BC88AR was repatriated by renowned collector William Bateman of Cumbria, after a period in his museum it was acquired by its previous owner and promptly sent to a classic car specialist in Crewe for an extensive 2 year restoration. this involved some 391 hours to refurbish the bodywork, the heavy duty frame and underside were found to be in excellent condition. the engine was in prime condition only in need of a service, the automatic transmission was also in that condition requiring no more than a service and adjustment back to factory settings by Autolock in Crewe a new power steering box was installed and the suspension was overhauled (new bushes/ seals/ fulcrum pins fitted as were new rear springs many other parts refurbished or replaced) the interior wood was refinished and the car re-trimmed in Oxblood Connelly leather hide with matching Wilton carpets including over carpets. the power hood mechanism was overhauled and a new Mohair hood in dark blue was fitted complete with a West of England cloth headlining. Completing the restoration a Cobalt Blue Metallic spray was carried out to a high standard. any re-chroming required was carried out by Derby Plating.
the car while in my ownership has been maintained by one of the leading experts in this era of Bentleys with no expense spared, it has been on many overseas trips including several to France and also to Vienna and back, there is a substantial file and the odometer reads 84000 miles which although not warranted is thought to be accurate.
