The Mercedes Benz W123 range was arguably the company's finest hour, producing over 2. 6 million units in its run range from late 1975 to early 1986. The 230e saloon had a production figure of just under 250, 000 units and the one offered here today has to be one of very few in this condition.
The mileage covered is a mere 34, 450 and for the M102 2. 3 litre fuelled injected power plant fitted to the car is best described as just run in. Now you might wonder how its possible that the car has travelled such a short distance, the reason being the first owner Mrs Pamela Barron who placed her order for the car on 14. 7. 82 spent a fair amount of time overseas on business hence the car being garaged in
County Durham for extended periods. The car was regularly started and exercised by staff in order to keep everything up to scratch.

The car runs superbly and is a pleasure to be in and around, the car will happily take its lucky new owner anywhere in comfort and style. Having manual window lifters fitted along with no sunroof option this may be seen as a lesser optioned model but the charm of manually lowering a window gives it an air of class yet simplicity. The Zebrano wood trim is superb and blemish free. All switch gear is fully operational and the multifunction indicator / wiper stalk feels factory fresh.
Now the upholstery what else can be said that the pictures don't tell you, in all honesty its better in
person than even the pictures will have you believe. Seats are totally unmarked and even the seat base runners look to have been fitted only yesterday. The headlining is mark free and the rear shelf first aid kit and box appear untouched. Carpets are a superb deep green colour and show no signs of fading in its 33 years. The car was fitted with a Blaupunkt radio cassette player which is fully operational as long as you remember to manually protract the aerial on the nearside rear wing. I'm not going to pretend the sound is of a high quality its not but what it is is the sound anyone that travelled in cars regularly in the early 1980, s will instantly be reunited with.
The paintwork is lovely finished in the elegant Thistle green metallic which was a step away in the early 80, s from the more dare I say outlandish bold greens, blue's, browns and pastel shades which the 70, s gave us. The chrome work is bright and clear and is the last production car by Mercedes Benz to give such lashings of chrome and bright work.
The engine bay is somewhere else you almost want to be with no hint of engine grime or modern electronic nonsense. The water ways are all still sporting the pre delivery check marks along with the power steering lines. The battery is freshly renewed with a Mercedes Benz unit. The inner wings are as good as the outer wings. The car was fitted buy the supplying dealer with a top of the range at the time alarm system, which is still in place. The car has its original supplying dealer paperwork and book pack.
Recent work to the car included the following.
- engine oil and filter renewal
- sparking plug renewal
- front discs renewal
- front pad renewal
- full brake fluid renewal
- coolant system drained and renewed
- all hinges greased
- Four new tyres fitted
- full 12 months MOT inspection carried out
So in summary if you want a car that you decide when its dark enough outside to turn on the lights and doesn't tell you its time to stop for a coffee then this could be the car for you.
The car clearly has to be one of the best available in RHD form today in the UK and dare I say Europe.
