1995 Mazda MX5 1. 8 iS, fitted with fastback hardtop. Inspired by the one-off NA Coupe which was made by Mazda as a styling exercise in the early 90’s.
The roof is technically removable, but it’s bolted securely in place and to all intents and purposes is a permanent fixture.
The car has a heated glass rear window and glass quarter windows, bonded into place.
A year ago I fitted two new rear wheel arch panels and a new genuine sill on the N/ S. the underside and structure of the car is now good, but both front wings are showing signs of rust where they join the bumper. It’s mainly cosmetic. New wings bolt on and are about £130 each for genuine Mazda replacements.
The paintwork isn’t great but it’s serviceable. I resprayed the roof, rear wings and boot lid during the course of the hardtop fitting, the rest of the car really needs painting to match as the colour match isn’t great.
Interior is quite good apart from the usual driver’s seat wear. I have lined the roof interior with proper grey padded headlining material. TR Lane roll bar fitted.
It has recently had new standard springs and dampers all round and a four wheel alignment. Tyres are Dunlops all round and a new Panasonic battery was fitted about six months ago. MOT until October.
I have been running the car as a daily driver for about six months with no issues. It has done about 107, 000miles, there is some service history which came with it. The car has electric windows, PAS, ABS, electric mirrors and a new CD player.
