Creased like a finely tailored Italian suit, the '67 Cadillac Eldorado was the personal transport choice of Hollywood movie stars, A-list crooners, Chicago gangsters and probably some honest businessmen too. Limited to a production run of just three years (1967-1970) its classic looks are as elegant today as they were half a century ago.
Automobile Quarterly gave the car its 1967 Design and Engineering Excellence award. Car Life magazine declared it “beyond the scope of today’s luxury/ specialty concept… the sort of visually distinctive, tastefully luxurious, enormously expensive, individualistic conveyance which characterised the Classic Era of automotive design”.
Cadillac just called it “the world’s finest personal car”.
The 1967 Eldorado quickly established itself as the ultimate Cadillac.
This example lived most of its life in California before being brought to the UK by its current owner. It has had a lighting modification for use in the UK and is fully road legal. Its age allows it to be classified as Historic by DVLA so there is no road tax to pay.
Its hard to imagine this car is half a century old. The paintwork (Baroque Gold) is in very good condition and the leather interior belies its age. It has covered 92000 miles during its life - nothing for a big 7 litre V8 - so it has been used and enjoyed by its previous owners. Clearly its had some work done over the decades but more recently it has had a brake overhaul, carburettor rebuild, new fuel pump and fuel line, starter motor, battery, HT leads and front axles.
It has 4 brand new whitewall tyres fitted and has a UK MOT until December 2017.
The car can be relied upon to start nicely and it runs smoothly with a lovely V8 burble from the twin exhausts.
The current owner has spent considerable sums to make the car as dependable as possible. At half a century old, it will always reserve the right to surprise its owner - that comes with the territory of owning a classic car - but all obvious issues have been dealt with.
The car is not in concourse condition (the few that are command 6 figure sums) but is a good example of its genre. The new owner will find things to do - but these should hopefully be by choice rather than necessity.
The car is based near Thame, Oxfordshire and Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Any inspection is invited.
