For sale, Velocette 1954 RS frame, with V5C logbook, in good paint, with trunnion arms, new spindle & bushes.

THIS COMES TOGETHER WITH THE FOLLOWING PARTS, TO PRETTY NEAR CREATE A WHOLE MACHINE, IF YOU CAN'T SEE IT IN THE PICTURES & IT IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE TEXT, THEN IT IS ONE OF THE FEW BITS MISSING FROM THE KIT, PLEASE LOOK HARD BECAUSE THERE ISN'T MUCH THAT'S NOT THERE!

If you could please be kind enough to read the following carefully & study the photos before asking questions, it would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Please be aware that this is not a collection of "left overs" but what has been amassed over many years, by an engineer, who has already built four other Velocettes, from the ground up, over the last nearly thirty years. This one was for my retirement but I have decided to concentrate on earlier machines now, having only just sold a bike of this type, that was built from parts for £7500 so the numbers do add up.

The kit includes the following parts, some of which are in new paint/ powder coat.

Taper headrace bearings, fork yokes, collets, hard chrome stanchions, good top nuts, fork springs, spring covers, one way dampers, sliders, headlamp shell, nacelle, headlamp brackets, engine & gearbox plates with stiffener, head steady, battery platform with straps, stainless steel mudguards but only the centre stay for front, dynamo belt covers, Miller dynamo, screw-up primary chaincases, both rear chainguards, rear number plate assembly, new rear light, Miller dip/ horn switch, handlebars, froth tower oil tank with breather modifications(ready to fit), two damaged but repairable 3 gallon petrol tanks, toolbox, rear full width hub, with reconditioned Venom sprocket/ brake drum, brake plate with shoes, front full width 7 & 1/ 2" hub but missing the brake drum (available new), single leading shoe front brake plate assembly complete, both wheel spindles, rider's footrests, brake pedal, new old stock Girling shock absorbers, new brake/ clutch levers, centre & side stands, with new stainless springs, one pillion footrest, usable venom exhaust system, speedo drive gearbox (but no speedo), dynamo strap, brake light switch assembly, miller ammeter & NOS pattern Miller headlamp switch.

THE ENGINE CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING,

Bottom end, as acquired many years ago, with matching polished cases, stamped with VM 12328, in too small a stamp size but faintly & I believe it to be one digit too many for a Venom but may have been changed from a late MSS? So I have included another drive side case from an early Viper, if you don't have a number you would like to re-stamp it with?
The bottom end has the correct parts fitted, including its oil pump, an M17/ 8 cam, long foot followers, its idler gear, steady plate, oil jet, it has a light weight Venom/ Viper type flywheel assembly, which doesn't feel too bad, the crankshaft pinion, oil pump drive worm, both 21 & 23 tooth engine sprockets, mainshaft shock absorber cam & spring, with only one half of the dynamo belt pulley.

With it is a complete & recently used, ready to go, Viper alfin barrel, piston, cylinder head with valves, valve collars, hairpin spring blocks, also a rocker box assembly, pushrods, pushrod tunnel with oil drain, rocker oil feed pipe, timing cover, oil pump return pipe & some banjo bolts.

In addition is a cast iron + 20 Venom barrel, requiring a rebore, with a good used + 40 Venom & +30 MSS piston so it has potential to be a 500, as many people convert Viper heads nowadays, which are then better with modern fuels.

There is a Lucas K1F magneto with an auto advance that needs a new tufnol gear or if you want to do what most people do, I have included a steel gear, together with the Lucas parts to convert it to manual advance.

It has a complete clutch, the gearbox shell is a series 12, however a few of the gears are really only suitable as patterns but I can give you names of people to source good secondhand replacements from, if you don't want to hunt at jumbles or buy them as you should if new, in pairs. The kick start lever, spring housing & gear lever pedal are also present. Also included is both a 16 & 18 tooth gearbox sprocket so it could be built using the 23 tooth engine sprocket but by running the smaller of the two on the gearbox, would have the correct gearing for a Viper, with the rear Venom sprocket drum. Then if you wanted to up rate it to a 500, you would not have to even take the primary cases apart.

None of the aluminium cases, cylinder head, alfin barrel, gearbox shell or hubs have been welded. There has only been a top fin repair on the cast iron Venom barrel, which is a neat job anyway.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this, if you know your Velocettes, from the pictures alone, you will see that there is not that much missing, apart from the usual speedometer, etc & in this case, mudguard stays, rear brake torque arm & several fasteners but all are readily obtainable either new or secondhand.

This will make a good project, also having the great advantage of a current age related number, on a V5C & being dated before 1960, not requiring an MOT so basically gives you a free hand to build it how you like, when you like. Helped by the fact that before being painted, it has skillfully had the lug put on the back end of the frame tube, to also take a large late type petrol tank, if the Clubman look is your thing?

Having such a good owners club spares scheme, together with specialists like Nick Payton & dedicated suppliers like Grove Classics, a project like this one is as straight forward as they come, I will also include a parts list, as well as a workshop manual, for bedtime reading.
