Very nice & original BMW 1600 GT (called by GLAS) for sale, located in Aveiro, Portugal.
This is a unrestored running car, ready to keep as is or restore to the higher condition for the serious collector.
This car is rust free, and was only repainted at the 80s.
It has matching engine numbers, runs shifts and drives very well as it should, and was just painted in 1984s on a BMW dealler (invoice included). This BMW 1600 GT still keep is original interior black leather on seats and side & door panels, window chromes & trim are not re-chromed (originals in very good condition), and paint has two little dots/ bulbs, but nothing important.
This rare BMW 1600 GT was designed by Pietro Frua for Hans Glas from the Glas Factory in Digolfing-Germany. Hans Glas was the famous owner of the Glas factory and was producing the Gogomobile cars, and the Glas 1300 and 1700 designed by Pietro Frua (Maserati, Rolls Royce Corniche, and other cars designer). When BMW bought the factory from Hans Glas, the engineers looked at the Glas 1700, changed the engine for the BMW 1600 and renamed the car as BMW 1600 GT. Only 1209 cars were made. Today this is one of the special cars that collectors and museums dream of.
From a information from a Germany known collector, it seams that they are only 300 examples remaining around the world at the club registers ! This model of BMW 1600 GT is a very rare car after the 507 convertible model! A very good investment!
