A little Subaru Sambar which had been modified to look like a small version of a classic VW Campervan ! We think this could well be the nicest Subaru Sambar available for sale today in the UK.
Great as a potential promotional vehicle, maybe coffee/ food van ? If you’re looking for something that gets people’s attention then this is for you – you can’t go anywhere without people smiling and staring or coming up for a chat.
It is a stunning example which we have only used for weddings/ proms etc. for the last couple of years. In overall excellent condition with very sound bodywork and beautiful interior and just 49, 800 recorded miles. MOT until 16/ 03/ 18 with no advisories.
The body kit was fitted in Japan to give it the retro VW look prior to be imported into the UK. It also has an imitation spare wheel which can be fitted to the front over the VW badge if preferred - we've never seen this on any other Sambars.
1994 'L' Reg, two tone paintwork (white over metallic silver), re-trimmed in the UK in 2015 by professional vehicle upholsterer (replaced headlining, carpets and seats upholstered) - no badly fitting, loose seat covers in this example. The interior bodywork behind the rear seats has been covered in discrete patterned vinyl.
Two individual reclining rear seats with folding armrests all around, rear seat belts, sliding rear doors give great access to rear compartment, rear seats fold flat to give a fully flat load area like a van, nearly new tyres all around, CD/ Radio/ USB player with Bluetooth, panoramic opening glass roof, central locking.
Having owned this Sambar for nearly three years and looked into them a lot here are the questions we would be asking if we were to buy one now, together with the answers for this one:
Does it overheat ? Sambars can be prone to overheating, not helped by the addition of the VW style front panel which can block airlflow to the radiator. Drive one at 50-60mph for a few miles and watch the temperature needle. Ours stays reliably just below normal.
Do the rear doors open from the outside ? – another common problem is the failure of the rear door handle mechanism which means the doors can only be opened from the inside. Our handles have been replaced with new Subaru ones imported from Japan and they work perfectly.
Does it have rear seatbelts ? Here’s the big one. Many Sambar owners will remove their rear seats (easily done) in order to get the car through an MOT. That’s because they legally require rear seat belts in the UK if the rear seats are in place. They might get an MOT that way but it won’t be much help to rear passengers in the event of an accident. This one has fully fitted three point inertia belts fitted for the two rear seats.
Does the roof work ? – yes, the electric sliding glass rear roof is fully functional as is the tilting front section.
Is the speedometer in miles per hour ? Yes. This one has a conversion fitted (see photo) so no need to worry about doing rapid maths when you’re approaching a speed camera ! The odometer still reads in kilometres
