Delivered on 21 May 1963 to a client in Basel, Switzerland, this Porsche 356 B (T6) Carrera GT 2000 was first registered in July 1963. It was later found in the hands of a German collector, Mr Steidinger, who only registered the car a few years after he bought it, in January 1999. It was on 16 February 1999 that Jean-Claude Miloé became the new owner, before selling it in February 2001 to another great French collector, M. Seydoux. In July 2004, the Porsche found its way back to the Miloé family, bought by Jean-Claude's son Jean-Louis Miloé. Documents relating to these transactions are included in a file to be passed on to the purchaser.

This is the sports version of the 356 that took its name from the marque's success in the Carrera Panamericana. It has a special engine (2 OHC per bank of cylinders, twin-spark ignition, two twin-choke downdraught carburettors, dry sump lubrication...), designed by Ernst Fuhrmann. It was initially available in a 1. 5-litre version, then 1. 6-litre and finally as a 2-litre car, as presented here. The GT configuration was more powerful than the GS, as it had a higher compression ratio.
The car on offer retains its original type 587/ 2 engine (n°98023) and original type 741/ 9A gearbox (n°64773). This is particularly rare for a Carrera GT that has never or hardly been engaged in racing. We do not have full details of the time it spent in Switzerland, up to July 1990. However, we have information in two factory documents, one being the official factory sheet delivered by Porsche, containing technical details of the car when it left the factory. This shows that the roll-cage was original to the car (along with harnesses), and the car was originally painted "Signalgelb 6211" with a black interior. It also shows that the 1 954cc type 587/ 2 engine was recorded as producing 155 bhp, with a sports exhaust not legal on the road. Fitted today with a special exhaust that is more efficient than a standard version, the engine is now capable of over 140 bhp. When our collector acquired the car, it was presented in its current livery " Rubinrot ".

At the start of 2000, just after he'd bought it, Jean-Claude Miloé took his Carrera GT to the Porsche factory for a full mechanical restoration, which included refurbishing the engine and gearbox. The mileage was 62 703 km, and from that time the car has been able to run on unleaded petrol. At the end of March 2005, it was prepared by the Porsche factory for the Tour Auto Historic, in which Jean-Claude Miloé finished in 12th place. Following this event the Porsche factory serviced the car and carried out the necessary repair work. The car returned to the factory for some maintenance work in March 2008, at 73 482 km.
Following a reorganisation of the Porsche Classic department, Jean-Claude Miloé turned to a German workshop 35 km from Stuttgart that was run by a specialist with an excellent reputation in four-cam 356 engines, Karl Hloch. And so, after years of participating in club events, Tour Auto and various sporting rallies, he decided to have the engine completely rebuilt. This was carried out, for a cost of over 35 000 €, at the start of 2013 in the workshop of Karl Hloch, when the car had covered 98 049 km. In December 2015, the original Weber 46IDM carburettors started to show signs of weakness following extensive use, and were sent to a specialist workshop in Germany to be refurbished. They were only collected in July 2017 and in the meantime, Karl Hloch adapted some Weber 48IDA carburettors. As the engine ran remarkably well, these have been left in place and the 46IDM carburettors, completely restored, (and impossible to find today !) will be included in the sale.
Since the engine rebuild, the car has not taken part in any sporting event, and was last serviced on 31 May 2016. In November 2017, the mileage was 114 806 km. The car still has its original engine, gearbox and the roll-cage that was fitted when new. The harnesses have been replaced by inertia reel belts but the corresponding mountings have been kept. The HTP papers (now expired) will be passed on with the car, along with a history file containing a large amount of correspondence and bills.

A rare model (there were less than 450 examples of the 356 Carrera 2 built), emblematic of Porsche's sporting history, the Porsche Carrera 2 was also the most powerful version of the 356, with a sophisticated engine and lightweight body. The example on offer has been in the hands of a family that is passionate about the marque and has benefitted from rigorous maintenance in recent years. The car remains mechanically original, which is also very rare today. Marque specialists can't fail to be moved by so many attractive features.
