Descripción
The P6 or Rover 2000 was launched in 1963 and promptly won car of the year. It was an advanced design with panels that bolted onto a base unit, disc brakes on all four wheels and de-dion tube rear suspension. The single carburettor version was joined by the TC in 1966 and then in 1968 Rover installed a modified version of the lightweight “Buick” 3500 V8 which gave the car a top speed of over 115mph and 0-60 in around 10 seconds in Automatic form. The P6 stayed in production until 1977.
This car is a 1974 Rover P6 3500 V8 in Almond with tan box-pleat leather interior and power steering. The upper body is in virtually unblemished condition with a superb paint finish and the base unit/ underside is also in very good order. In 1995 it was treated to a body restoration and mechanical overhaul at a cost then of £6000 and there are also substantial bills for further expenditure in recent years.
On the road this Rover drives superbly – as well as any of the dozen or so we have owned in recent years - and the V8 runs very sweetly. We have just carried out some re-commissioning including overhaul of the automatic gearbox (£1500) new inhibitor switch, new alternator, oil and filter and various other minor replacement parts. The car is also fitted with a full stainless-steel exhaust system and electronic ignition. The interior trim is in good but not perfect condition and there are one or two cosmetic jobs that could improve the car but nothing urgent or vital.
The P6 has been under-valued for years but prices have finally started to rise so now maybe the last chance to buy one of these beautifully built Rovers for the price of a Morris Minor.
If you are looking for a V8 we also have an excellent series 1 car in stock. Please see our other advert or call for details.
