Description
I have now uploaded a walkaround video on YouTube. com - first a cold start in my garage, followed by a warm start in the drive. Search for my channel: @airside714
I’ve reluctantly decided to sell my beautiful 1981 Porsche 911 Targa 3. 0 SC. After owning a number of classics over the years, this is genuinely the most enjoyed and most complimented car I’ve ever had. It has real presence – people smile, give thumbs up, and regularly stop for a chat. It’s a car that just makes you happy every time you drive it.
The car is in very good overall condition. The bodywork is solid and straight, with only minor cosmetic imperfections you’d expect on a 44-year-old Porsche: a few small bubbles and chips, light scrapes to the bumper rubbers, and some micro-blistering under the paint on the bonnet. I’ve made sure these are shown in the photos. The interior is very tidy, with no rips, stains, or major wear. I did notice when using the Cobra remote alarm and central locking today, that although the car locked on the remote as usual, it disarmed when unlocking by remote but did not fully pop the locks up. Using the key unlocked of course so the buyer will need to have that looked at. Two sets of keys are supplied.
Last year the front speakers were upgraded to the superb Infinity Reference for improved sound and to complement the Pioneers on the rear shelf.
Recent work and mechanical highlights:
Engine and gearbox fully rebuilt around 1, 600 miles ago by a respected local specialist Barry Barnes at Porsche Specialists, Mortimer Prestige, Billingshurst, West Sussex). New cylinders, pistons, chains, bearings, and all associated components. The parts were supplied by Kontakt Ltd. South Norwood, London whose invoices list the parts cost at around £4k)
New tyres all round last year (less than 150 miles use).
New heater swivel flaps, cables clamps and connect pipe.
New interior fan motor, fuel filter and relay.
Brakes fully sorted at the last MOT.
Overall, spent over £3300 in 2025.
The car starts easily on the button. There is a slight variation in idle revs when cold for the first minute or two, but it clears quickly and has not caused any issues. As a historic vehicle it is road-tax free and MOT exempt, although I had it tested recently purely for peace of mind.
It is currently on my cherished personal registration ROB 665M, which I’ve used on several special cars over the years. I’m happy to negotiate including the plate in the sale if the buyer would prefer it (the original registration is PMY 451W). Checking factory codes, it left the factory with a Sports package of 6J 7 7J Fuchs alloys, front lip spoiler, 'whaletail' rear spoiler and Bilstein Sports shocks.
This is a lovely, usable, and very charismatic 3. 0 SC Targa that turns heads. A genuine opportunity to buy a well-maintained example with a major mechanical overhaul.
I don't have the original service book but I have a pile of receipts and invoices for work going back to the 1990's.
