Lotus Europa Special TC (type 74) of 1974 the Europa was designed in response to Ford's quest to overturn Ferrari's supremacy in competition on the European continent 3 manufacturers in the running were identified Lola, Cooper and Lotus. Lotus was counting on its already existing relationship with the American manufacturer, but Ford's choice fell on Lola and its GT Mk VI.
The 46th project of the Hethel-based firm was a car well ahead of its time, with a steel beam chassis and fibreglass body, helped by a Cx of 0. 29 and an overall height of barely one metre, which favoured an extremely low centre of gravity. The car presented in 1966 exuded sportiness and was a prototype of an astonishing piece of engineering, the Lotus "Twin Cam Special Big valves "Type 74 with 1558 cm3 and two twin Weber carburettors fitted by Lotus with two overhead camshafts developing 126 bhp and enabling this little bomb to reach speeds of up to 200 km/ h. In red combined with a black leatherette interior and black carpet, this fantastic Lotus Europa Special was equipped with the famous Lotus "Big Valve 1558 cm3 Twin Cam" four-cylinder engine. The engine delivers 126 bhp, which is more than enough for very sporty performance in this very light car (740 kg)! This Lotus Europa is in very good condition. The car is fitted with a genuine folding sliding roof (Webasto) and original Lotus light alloy wheels. New clutch, suspension, exhaust manifolds, ... The current owner acquired it from a Dutch collector who had bought it́ from its first owner in Belgium where it was registered the 1st time by the Lotus distributor of the time, the establishments F.
