A rare NG TD V8, this charming little car was the brainchild of an English engineer who, noting the number of MGs ending up in the crate due to corrosion problems in the 1980s, decided to build a roadster using their mechanical elements and evoking pre-war sports cars, in particular the Aston Martin Ulster.
The result, sold as a kit or built, is right before your eyes: an aluminium and fibre body mounted on a special chassis that takes the front and rear axles of the MGBs, as well as the instrumentation and everything else he could salvage! Originally intended for the MGB's 1800cc 4-cylinder engine, success and the quest for performance led him to also develop a version equipped with the V8 engine of the Rover 3500 SD1 and other Range Rovers, also widely used as organ 'donors'!
The model I'm presenting here is one of these, powered by a Rover SD1 V8, with its 5-speed gearbox, and fed by a Holley 4-barrel carburettor for a little more power. Estimated power is around 170bhp. The result is a particularly attractive vehicle with pre-war looks, but with more than enough performance for today's traffic, and good reliability. The cost of any repairs is also kept to a minimum thanks to the use of MG and Rover parts. This example is correctly registered as a collector's car as an NG, with a tax rating of 20bhp corresponding to the V8.
It has just passed its MOT and is running faultlessly, with a delightful sound! The bodywork has not been painted for some time, giving it an undeniable patina.
The soft top is in good condition, but there's no 'door'. This is an original collector's vehicle that you wouldn't come across every day, and it's totally usable without breaking the bank. See it, hear it, and try it out to enjoy the summer in a different way!
