Model history In 1979, Porsche planned to replace the 911 SC with the new 928. However, 911 sales remained so strong that Porsche revised its strategy and decided to breathe new life into the 911. Thus the 911 Carrera 3. 2 was born and introduced in 1984. The Carrera name returns for the first time since 1977. It is the final iteration of the original 911 family, all subsequent models featuring a new body and new brake, electronics and suspension technologies. The car was equipped with a new 3. 2-litre flat-six engine. This version of the 911 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/ h in 5. 4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/ h according to Autocar. Factory figures were more modest, ranging from 6. 3 to 6. 1 seconds. The handling refinement and engine reliability were improved thanks to upgrading fuel and ignition control components, which were replaced by an L-Jetronic system with Bosch Motronics 2 DME (Digital Motor Electronics). Fuel efficiency was improved thanks to the DME system which cuts fuel supply in case of overrun. Three body styles were available: coupe, targa and convertible. The Carrera is almost indistinguishable from the SC, the exterior cue being the headlights integrated into the front spoiler. Only cosmetic changes were...
