Description
The S-Type, unveiled at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1998, is a four-door luxury saloon produced by Jaguar for eight years (2000-2008). The name was a revival of Jaguar's previous model, the S-Type introduced in 1963, whose bodystyle seemed to have been inspired by the Mark 2 of the same period.
The supercharged S-Type R (Jaguar STR in short) joined the range in 2002, and the aim was for it to rival BMW's M5 E39 and Mercedes E55 AMG. The R was powered by the all-new 4. 2-litre V8 built by hand with an Eaton M112 supercharger, producing 400 bhp (298 kW; 406 PS) and capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/ h) in 5. 3 seconds (0-100 km/ h / 62 mph in 5. 6 s). The top speed was limited to 155 mph. Once the electronic limiter was removed, the S-Type R could reach 191 mph, and with simple pulley upgrades and ECU tweaks, it can be tuned to produce more than 500 bhp with a top speed exceeding 200 mph. [citation needed] It included 18-inch alloy wheels (457 millimetres), a mesh grille, and monochrome paint. The R also features a rear apron, side skirts and a front apron with integrated fog lights, a rear spoiler, a reinforcement near the rear subframe, and an R badge on the boot lid and both front wings.
