Description
Produced from 1970 to 1977, the Triumph Stag is a so-called Targa (with its removable roof) four-seater, designed to appeal to the American market, hence its engine: a V8, a first for the brand, 3. 0L developing 145 bhp (127 bhp for the American market).
Over the seven years of production, there were three phases, the first from 1970 to 1973, the second only for the year 1973, and finally the last from 1974 to 1977.
The Triumph Stag (meaning grand stag) is an improved evolution of the TR6, the GT6 and the Spitfire 6. Across the seven years of production and more than 25, 000 units built, its success was somewhat mixed, mainly due to teething reliability issues at the time (cooling).
Cinematically, it appeared in a James Bond film (Diamonds Are Forever) in 1971.
From 1975 onwards, it began to be replaced by the Triumph TR7 and TR8.
NYC’s/ OXOTO has this very handsome example of the Triumph Stag for sale here, showing under 71, 000 miles on the odometer, in blue with black leather interior. Note that originally, it was yellow (Yasmine). Indeed, we have excellent traceability of this Triumph’s life with all the necessary and useful documents to understand its 50+ years!
Produced in April 1971 and destined for the American market, in Detroit more precisely, we know it left the USA in 2004 to return to England. Owned by two English owners, the last moved to Belgium, Brussels, and brought it back with him to Belgian soil (Belgian registration completed in May 2014). The latter was a true enthusiast of the model, who did not hesitate to give it a new lease of life (we have an enormous file of invoices, restoration photos, an appraisal report, etc). Even better, the first English owner was the reference for the official Stag club!
It was in May 2018 that this owner sold it to its current owner, a northern Frenchman, who likewise did not hesitate to keep it in excellent condition, with numerous recent maintenance invoices to prove it.
The bodywork presents very well: no dents, no scratches and above all no corrosion. The chrome work (bumpers, window surrounds, etc) is also in superb condition.
The hood is also in excellent condition, with no wear to the fabric or mica at the rear.
The interior is very handsome as well, whether the seats, door panels, the dashboard (gorgeous wood), the carpets, the steering wheel, everything is really in very good condition.
Regarding the mechanics, it starts and runs very well. The V8’s melody is fabulous, really.
See on our site the photos of the numerous invoices from the last 15 years — it’s impressive. The current owner has again spent in 2025 to sell it in perfect condition, with nothing to budget.
The latest MOT report dates July 2023 and mentions no issues!
In addition to its many invoices, we have an appraisal report that confirms the very good overall condition as of 2014 (subsequently much improved), but also a user manual with technical explanations, a windscreen, a spare wheel, numerous photos of its restoration, authenticity certificates issued by Triumph, photos of its life in England and Belgium, previous MOT reports, copies of its previous registration certificates, transport documents, etc. In short, we have excellent tracking of this Triumph Stag’s life, which is important in the life of a classic car.
A ramp is available at our facilities to show you the underside of the vehicle.
