This example of the Sunbeam Lotus Chrysler, one of the 400 produced, remains in very good preserved condition. For proof, the original black paint paired with the white stripe typical of these models shows a uniform patina. Exterior elements such as the headlights, badges, plastics and wheels are in excellent condition, well preserved despite their 46 years.
Inside, the original white fabric seats have been replaced with two OMP ‘CHAMP’ bucket seats providing the driver with all the support needed behind the wheel of this beast. Of course, the original upholstery will be sold with the vehicle, as will the rear bench which is still present in the cabin. The leather trim, from door panels to the dashboard through the gear lever gaiter, shows excellent condition and is complemented by a nice patina. The original leather steering wheel is also in excellent condition, as are the analogue gauges, all fully functional.
The vehicle sits on a healthy chassis with no structural corrosion, whose balance and safety criteria were satisfied during our road test. The entire chassis is protected by a black underseal, beneath which an original sport exhaust system allows the Lotus engine to express itself fully.
This Lotus engine, a 2-litre producing 160 bhp, behaves very healthily whether hot or cold. Retaining all its original vitality, it has all its maintenance records and presents very well in a clean engine bay. The 5-speed manual gearbox to which it is mated functions perfectly, smoothly and without a hitch.
In summary, this Talbot Sunbeam Lotus is in excellent condition for its age. Between original patina and sporting elements, its chassis and engine will surprise you with their liveliness, as when it left the factory in 1979. Furthermore, the vehicle comes with an service history booklet as well as numerous invoices.
