There are cars that seek to impress, and others that simply aim to be fair. This Alpine GTA clearly belongs to the latter category.
Born in the mid-80s, it embodies a pivotal period for Alpine: an era when the aim was still to build road-going sports cars for driving pleasure, without an obsession with pure performance. The GTA preserves what has always made the brand’s soul: a mid-mounted rear engine, a balanced chassis, and that very particular feeling of being at the wheel of a different car.
Under the bonnet, the 160 horsepower V6 isn’t there to set lap times. It is smooth, pleasant, and perfectly matches the spirit of the car. It’s an Alpine that you enjoy on a beautiful road, clocking up miles calmly, enjoying the sound and the driving position more than speed.
This specimen shows 118, 000 km, a mileage consistent for a car approaching forty years old. Bought at 114, 000 km, it has done few miles since, kept for occasional pleasure. Some major interventions have been carried out to drive confidently: alternator replaced, head gasket renewed preventively, as well as the timing chain. Subtle but essential work, which demonstrates a responsible approach to maintenance. An expert report will also be supplied with the car.
The bodywork is generally in good condition, with a few marks from age and normal use. The front bumper would deserve a refresh for a more uniform presentation, but overall it remains healthy and coherent, without artifices.
On the road, the car feels sound and pleasant, faithful to what one expects of an Alpine of this generation. Its sound is captivating, yet discreet for long journeys. It isn’t an intimidating or demanding car: it’s an accessible, endearing sports car that makes you want to drive rather than simply be parked up.
This GTA isn’t a showroom piece. It’s an Alpine for enthusiasts, for someone who wants to discover, or rediscover, what it meant to “drive” in the 1980s.
