Description
The Atelier des 1000 is pleased to present today for sale this elegant 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 Coda Tronca, in a particularly refined setup combining ivory bodywork with a burgundy leather interior and a black alpaca hood.
The Coda Tronca Spider sits in the evolution of the mythical Spider designed by Pininfarina.
Distinguishing itself from the Duetto, Duetto-like models or "Os de sèche" for the insiders, the “truncated tail” version appeared to modernise the Spider’s line while improving its aerodynamics, preserving Italian elegance while gaining high-speed stability.
Powered by the renowned 2. 0 L, 4-cylinder dual overhead cam engine, it develops around 128 hp, offering an excellent compromise between flexibility, performance and driving pleasure typical of Alfa.
Our example was first registered in 1978 in the USA. It was imported to France in 2020, and has benefited from substantial work to make it as appealing as it is reliable.
Mechanically, the engine runs wonderfully, starts easily, with no noises or smoke, and its tuning allows full enjoyment of the Bialbero character.
Engine sealing has been revised with the replacement of the head gasket as well as numerous peripheral seals.
An electronic ignition, paired with a high-performance coil, a new loom and new spark plugs have been installed to ensure ignition quality and reliability.
The car is equipped with a full stainless steel exhaust system offering a particularly pleasant cabriolet soundtrack.
The cooling system has received particular attention with the radiator replacement, as well as new mounts and hoses.
The gearbox, often regarded as the model’s weak point, shifts and locks correctly, with smooth and precise gear changes.
The clutch, too, has been replaced recently, as have the clutch master and slave cylinders, ensuring optimal operation.
The running gear behaves perfectly and the steering shows no abnormal play.
The front end has been refreshed with a complete kit of new bushings and steering joints.
The suspensions have been upgraded with a kit of 4 KonI Classic dampers paired with short springs, delivering precise and very pleasant road manners. Rear travel straps were also installed.
Braking fully performs its role and is perfectly balanced. The system benefited from a complete replacement of the front and rear discs and pads, completed by the installation of aviation-type brake hoses.
The Cromodora 14" wheels are in excellent condition and fitted with recent tyres.
The bodywork is in excellent condition, with the paint delivering good shine.
Being of American origin, European chrome bumpers were installed, and bodywork was carried out to remove the original integrated wing mirrors in the wings.
The headlights, rear lights and headlight glass have been replaced.
The black alpaca soft top is new and all chrome trim is perfectly sparkling.
The interior is charming, the burgundy upholstery is pristine, as are the matching door panels.
The original plastic dashboard has been clad in black leather; the work is of high quality and adds real value to the cabin presentation.
The 3‑spoke wooden Personnal steering wheel is in excellent condition, adding a sport-chic touch to the whole.
All carpets, floor insulation as well as a new steering column cover and sun visors have been installed.
Security-wise, a complete seatbelt kit with mounts has been fitted.
The controls have also been renewed with a wooden gear knob and a full pedal set.
Given its configuration, overall condition and the quality of its maintenance, this Alfa Romeo is offered at €28, 490. Trade‑ins considered.
