V8 5. 2-litre engine, A727 TorqueFlite automatic gearbox, reputed to be virtually indestructible. Permanent 4x4 transmission with front Dana 44 axle and rear Chrysler 9. 25 axle. Front brakes are ventilated discs.

The Royal SE trim with the Prospector III package represents the top of the range at the time: air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, cloth bucket seats, centre console, alloy wheels, tinted glass, AM/ FM radio. The 144‑litre fuel tank (38 gallons).
