This magnificent Mercedes-Benz 220 S, with exceptional authenticity, was delivered new in Switzerland. Imported to the Netherlands in 2005, it has since been cherished by a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast. This 220 S model belongs to the second W180 series, produced from 1956 to 1959. It is equipped with a 2. 2-litre inline-six engine with twin Solex carburettors, developing 106 hp. The “S” stands for “Super”, underscoring the higher-quality interior materials, more refined finishes and additional chrome details of this version. The interior features beautiful wood trim on the dashboard and around the windows. The car is fitted with the most modern radio of its era: the Becker Mexico, with its automatic station-search function (currently out of service – not tested – and shown only for illustration). The drive is comfortable and enjoyable; you feel perfectly in command behind the large steering wheel and the elegant dashboard. The four‑speed control on the steering wheel offers smooth, precise driving, and the 106 hp inline six, quiet but powerful, reveals its full vigor when the accelerator is pressed firmly. This magnificent Mercedes-Benz W180 220 S, in very good condition, has retained all its original details. A very complete historical file is present.
