There are cars you buy. And there are cars you go and fetch.
This one, I went to find in Rome, in August 2021. The trip home was by road, across a big chunk of Italy — mountain passes, villages, and the looks from passers-by. A journey you only do once, with a car you don’t see on the road very often.
The car today
Since returning to France, it’s been put back into proper, thorough condition: the engine has been fully rebuilt, there have been bodywork touch-ups, and then it’s been set up and checked by a professional specialising in the Fiat 500 in Tours. It drives faultlessly, with no compromises.
The original sport-style wheels have been replaced with whitewall tyres, closer to the look and feel of the era. The old axles with their tyres are included in the sale — you choose which version you want.
The gearbox has been fitted with a fifth gear: real comfort on the road, without betraying the car’s mechanical character.
