Description
Autobianchi Abarth 70 HP MY 1976 Series III 4-speed Rosso Corsa
The Autobianchi A 112 is unveiled at the 1969 Turin Motor Show by FIAT, and will be distributed in France via the Chardonnet dealer network.
At the time, the “Bombinettes” were all the rage, including the @mini in “Cooper” spec—so, the House wizard and master of the trade, Carlo Abarth, created the sporty version of the range in 1971. It had a more powerful engine producing 58 bhp, and—most importantly—an even more aggressive look with a unique Rouge livery, paired with a matt black bonnet.
1973: the Series II appears, fitted with an oil cooler radiator, reclining seats, and a grille and black plastic bumpers.
In 1975, the Series III—as shown here—is now fitted with a 1059 cc engine developing 70 bhp, much better suited to showcase the scorpion’s sporting character.
The third series is the most highly prized Abarth, as it combines the 70 bhp engine with the elegance of its grille and rear lights, bumpers & dashboard, and it’s still fitted with the 4-speed gearbox.
Only 10% of the 121, 000 units produced up to 1985 can proudly claim the @abarth badge.
