Description

Warning: the Classic Car messaging system isn’t working well, I don’t receive emails, so please contact me on Leboncoin where I have the same advert, same title. Thank you.

1) Last MOT carried out in October 2024 at 273, 500 km, clean (no advisories). Currently it has around 277, 000 km and I am the 3rd owner in Voiron, Isère. The 1st owner was the wife of the boss of the Bordeaux dealership; the 2nd owner was a retiree in Bordeaux. This MOT is the result of a passionate piece of work with many hours logged (about 14!)

2) Don’t expect a 40-year-old car, regardless of mileage, to be driveable with pleasure and safety without a complete recommissioning.

3) No perforating corrosion, all hollow sections are pristine, surface corrosion has been treated with care using quality products. A healthy body like this is rare! (see photos of the floor, windscreen pillar, sill, rails and views from under the engine bay). It retains its original colour. There are marks on the bodywork, of course, but overall it presents well.

4) The car draws attention and has a unique charm! If a Porsche parks next to it, it will be shunned in favour of the Civic Shuttle! I’ve clocked up 2, 000 km behind the wheel, and if you’re feeling low, I suggest you take out your Shuttle which radiates a unique joie de vivre, you’ll be smiling! Very lively, and ultimately faster than it might seem, it shoots along like a trout in a river. Smooth, precise, and quick gear change. Lyrical engine revs as the revs climb.

5) Details of work carried out:
- RUNNING GEAR: Wheels fully stripped of their sticky grime on both sides, followed by polishing of the original paint (long and delicate work). New and recent tyres. KYB shocks (made in Japan) and Monroe nearly new, low mileage. No play, see MOT, like a new car. Entirely new braking system, no shortcuts. Silicone brake fluid.
- ENGINE COMPARTMENT: CARBURATOR – Removal of the carburettor and intake to rebuild the carburettor: 30 hours of work to redo the carb, the main gasket complex redone by hand with a cut-out knife (never again). All internal o-rings new and various small internal parts (and hard to find) – many hours online sourcing pieces not available in a single kit. Impossible to set a carb with pollution in spec unless rebuilt properly. - Air filter box fully cleaned, checked and repaired (depression/ carb heat system – 9 times out of 10 neglected).
- IGNITION: Fully dismantled and rebuilt with new O-rings and bearings – takes effort to source the right references; hours of online searches and disappointments, but the result is flawless.
- IGNITION COIL: NGK harness and NGK plugs. ORIGINAL KEIHIN FUEL PUMP new. Very hard to find, a jackpot after months of searching. No aftermarket pump; they’re disasters. No old Keihin pumps that leak fuel everywhere. Needs to be new and OEM.
- COOLING CIRCUIT: radiator removed and hoses replaced; hoses were completely cleaned inside (scale) and outside (grime, burnt oil). They’re supple as new. Restom product to descale the radiator. Thermostat new, of course.
- TRANSMISSION: Axles with new boots and clamps; these are the originals and must be kept! New axle shaft seals.
- ENGINE: Cylinder compressions identical to those in the workshop manual, around 13 bar per cylinder: like new. After removing the rocker cover (new gasket) I found the top end completely clean with no sludge, proof that oil changes were regularly done and the car was well maintained.
- CAMLEE clearance adjusted (per Honda workshop manual I own).
- TIMING: New and timed correctly. Water pump made in Japan (Aisin). Tensioner pulley made in Japan.
- ENGINE BAY: Rust removed from the rail under the battery (past leak) down to solid metal and treated with very high-quality black paint; it won’t budge. Several areas where electrical loom protection was worn have been renewed with automotive-grade loom.
- CLUTCH: Replaced by the previous owner at 250, 000 km, I have the invoice; it now has around 26, 000 km.
- EXHAUST: Entirely new and custom-made (fabrication) from Honda silencers.
