The VW 1303, also known as the Super Beetle, was an improved and modernised version of the classic VW Beetle, produced from 1970 to 1975 as a saloon and up to the early 1980s in Cabriolet form. It featured major technical changes, notably MacPherson front suspension, a curved windscreen, a redesigned dashboard and improved brakes that offered better handling. The 1303 also had a larger front boot and enhanced safety compared with its predecessors. The Super Beetle was fitted with a 1. 6 L engine and was one of the last versions of the Beetle.
The 1979 model we are offering for sale was built during one of the final months of production at Karmann in Osnabrück. It was exported to the United States and originally came with the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, making it a very easy classic to live with. It starts at the turn of the key and offers fairly good performance compared with the older Beetles (that’s why it was dubbed the Super Beetle...). It arrived in Belgium in 1996 and has had two owners since. The car is in remarkable and fantastic original condition – apart from a very professionally redone paint job and a new bonnet, it is entirely as it left the factory. The last owner – a highly experienced retired Volkswagen mechanic – has kept the Beetle in fantastic condition while preserving the car’s originality.
Driving this Beetle is a real pleasure. The car is very comfortable and pleasant to drive. The roof is like new and driving with the roof down adds an extra thrill with the distinctive boxer engine note in the background. The seats are comfortable and there is ample room for four adults. The brakes and handling are good and cannot be compared with the older Beetle models. The colour combination is classic and suits the car well. You will only receive positive reactions and thumbs-up when you’re on the road.
A (Super) Beetle Cabriolet is a very attractive car for entering the world of classic cars. Relatively affordable and easy to maintain, all parts are still available. It is one of the best examples on the market and a 100% guarantee of driving pleasure.
