An alternative and competitor to the Alpine, the Matra Djet is far rarer, possesses sculptural beauty, and above all offers the engineering of a racing car with its mid-mounted rear engine.
Some of the younger enthusiasts may not know this marque; let us therefore remind them that Matra Sport, in just a few years, won nothing less than the F1 World Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times, and the Tour de France Automobile three times… The atmospheric V12 competition engine created by Matra (before the turbo era) produced a sound that marked everyone fortunate enough to hear it. But it all began with the first "Djet" powered by a Gordini 4-cylinder engine that started in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1962…
The Djet VS is the direct heir to the René-Bonnet prototype from the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1962, ultra-lightweight and aerodynamic, its bodywork is virtually identical.
Only 355 Djet V S were built, far fewer survive today, and fine examples are obviously extremely rare.
This extraordinary machine, lively, quick and nimble, usable as a daily driver, offers rare sensations—those of a racing driver from the heroic era. Its streamlined and aerodynamic profile, which can be compared to the contemporary Alfa Romeo TZ, is striking and evocative.
This Matra Djet V S underwent a comprehensive restoration a few years ago and runs beautifully; it has participated several times in the Tour Auto Historique. Rare and historically significant, beautiful, versatile—a Matra Djet V S is an extremely interesting collector's automobile and obviously eligible for many events and major rallies.
