Description
Hello,
I’m selling my 1971 Fiat 124 Spider BS1 1600.
History of the previous owner: this car was stored in a garage for more than 5 years and had not been driven, following an inheritance issue. A year before I bought it, the head had been replaced with the wrong version, which made it not run at the time of my purchase in 2021.
Before purchasing: the entire wiring loom needed reworking, the bodywork needed redoing.
The hood (soft top) and the upholstery were in very good condition. The shell was sound.
Bought in 2021 with the aim of acquiring a first classic car, I began a restoration of the vehicle for more than two and a half years. More than 700 photos/ videos are available, filmed by me during this restoration. Some photos are available from my first visit, in the barn, up to today (the photos in the advert).
Here is a non-exhaustive list of what has been done on the vehicle, trying to keep a chronological order:
- Removal of the incorrect head fitted to the car. The ORIGINAL head had been supplied. It was resurfaced at AMN and then refitted.
> From that moment the vehicle was running.
- Complete dismantling of the two Weber carburettors, ultrasonic cleaning, reassembly.
- The interior of the vehicle was completely emptied (seats, steering wheel, central console, dashboard…) as well as all exterior components (windscreen, bumpers, lights, hood…) in order to prepare a full restoration of the body.
- The floor was inspected and a few welds were carried out to ensure the shell is watertight and rust-free.
- The bodywork was completely reworked, removing all possible defects during more than one winter, all under the supervision of a professional coachbuilder, before being painted in a spray booth by him.
- The wiring loom was redone by me to over 90%.
- A large number of parts were restored: cleaned, treated with Polytrol to restore their shine, or repainted (air box, rocker cover, exhaust system…).
- The wooden elements of the dashboard were redone by my grandfather, a cabinetmaker.
Many parts are new (mostly bought from Arnold Classic Shop): stalk, gear knob, gaiter, door interiors, fan, dashboard, part of the exhaust line…
Despite the restoration, this remains a car over 50 years old. My aim was not to do a concours restoration; a few small defects may be present (notably two “cracks” on the upper edge of the driver's door, appearing at the time of the booth painting, visible depending on light).
It would be difficult to describe everything that has been done to this car given the scale of the work.
I’m selling it to finance a property project. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
