BMW Z3 2. 0 Phase 2 - Superb condition - Service history - Many options - Service & MOT OK
The Z3 2. 0 gives you access to the world of the legendary straight-six for a reasonable budget, whether it’s buying, maintaining, or even insuring it. According to its service book, this Z3 was delivered new in Germany to the BMW dealer Autohaus Karl Müller in Gerlingen, where it remained until the 2010s before being imported into France. The previous owner bought it in 2016. I’ve chosen to sell this car after looking after it as best I could, to fund a new automotive project (an older BMW).
General condition: This example is in a rare condition—100% original, with no outlandish modifications. Its mileage is documented. Its classic yet sporty specification makes it all the more desirable, far removed from the questionable colour combinations you often see on Z3s. A youngtimer that ticks every box, up to date with servicing, ready for adventure!
Exterior: The bodywork is in remarkable condition, in “Cosmoshwartz Metallic”. I had the bumpers resprayed—careful work with removal, and the colour has been reproduced perfectly. Any remaining tiny signs of normal use don’t detract from the superb presentation of this Z3. The soft-top fabric is very well preserved and the frame operates perfectly. The body seals are in excellent condition; the items known for cracking on most Z3s are new on this one (door handles, antenna, etc.). The rare 17-inch BBS offset wheels add a notably sporty touch.
Interior: The interior is very smart, with a pleasing level of trim (a more modern design on Phase 2, aluminium inserts on the centre console and doors, etc.). Heated seats and air conditioning mean you can enjoy this Z3 comfortably all year round. The driver’s seat shows a few minimal traces of wear, consistent with the mileage. Seat mounting is good; the slider spacers—known for developing play on Z3s—are new here, as are the seat belt guides (parts that often break with the years). The original BMW Business CD radio works perfectly. The electronics are as they should be—no warning lights illuminated.
Mechanical: This Z3 is a joy to drive. The engine runs perfectly. No abnormal smoke, and no unusual consumption of water or oil! Engine temperature is controlled perfectly, even in hot weather. Compared with the 1. 8 and 1. 9-litre 4-cylinder versions, this 2. 0 straight-six is far more flexible—it expresses itself better and doesn’t cost more to maintain (timing chain, not a belt). Fuel consumption remains very reasonable. Road behaviour is excellent; the front axle has already been rebuilt. The wide tyres on the 17-inch wheels help a lot. Consumables are OK (tyres, discs, pads). No corrosion!
