Description
Triumph TR6 PI 150 bhp — 1969 — series CP26561 — Overdrive
Due to age-related reasons and a few minor health issues, I am reluctantly parting with this TR6, which is part of my small collection of classic sports cars.
First registered in France on 3 October 1969. This is therefore one of the earliest European fuel-injected TR6s, left-hand drive, with overdrive. The car has been French since new.
I have owned it for 18 years. During this period, it has been progressively improved and made more reliable, whilst continuing to be driven regularly, notably on long trips throughout France and neighbouring countries. It currently shows 83, 000 km on the odometer.
Over the years, it has benefited from work carried out by three recognised marque specialists: Red Baron Racing in Belgium, Revington TR in the United Kingdom and B Cars in the Yvelines.
Amongst the work and improvements carried out:
- Electronic ignition;
- Conversion and reinforcement of the rear suspension with adjustable Koni dampers;
- Stainless steel exhaust;
- Electric cooling fan;
- Fuel injection metering unit overhaul;
- Replacement and repositioning of the fuel pump;
- New clutch;
- New transmission seal;
- Reinforcement and correction of the rear suspension arm mounting points, a well-known weakness of TR6s; with chassis treatment
The mohair hood is new. The car was repainted in 2010 and today presents a pleasant patina entirely consistent with its age, with a few minor paint imperfections that have appeared over the past sixteen years.
It has just been serviced and, in addition to oil and filters, the coil, spark plugs and ignition harness have been replaced.
Classic vehicle registration document. The MOT carried out in June 2025 revealed no significant issues; it will naturally be renewed for the sale.
This is a car I have always preferred to drive rather than simply preserve. It is reliable, enjoyable and performs remarkably well: the engine delivers the 150 bhp of the PI version with enthusiasm and the overdrive makes it particularly pleasant for long journeys.
The TR6 remains for many one of the most successful incarnations of the classic British sports roadster: a powerful engine, a communicative chassis and driving full of character.
This is an authentic example, French from new, very early in TR6 PI production, carefully made reliable and ready to take to the road. A car meant to be driven and enjoyed, rather than sit in a museum.
