Launched in 1963, the Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III represents the ultimate evolution of the celebrated "Big Healey" lineage, which became a benchmark amongst post-war British roadsters. More refined than its predecessors, it stands out with its six-cylinder inline engine of 2, 912 cc producing 150 bhp thanks to a revised cylinder head and dual SU HD8 carburettors. This evolution gives it remarkable performance for its era, with a top speed approaching 190 km/ h and a particularly expressive mechanical character. The Mk III also benefits from an improved rear suspension, offering more balanced handling and better driving comfort. Its interior gains in refinement with a walnut-veneered dashboard, winding side windows and more careful finishing.
True to the spirit of English roadsters, it combines timeless elegance, mechanical simplicity and driving pleasure. Its long bonnet, characteristic grille and fluid lines make it an immediately recognisable motor car. Produced until 1967, it marks the end of the collaboration between Austin and Donald Healey.
Built between 17th and 23rd February 1965, this Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III is an authentic "Big Healey" that has retained all the elegance that made the model famous. Factory records confirm it was delivered new in the mythical Healey Blue, an emblematic colour that perfectly enhances its timeless lines. Acquired by its current owner around 2015, this Healey underwent a complete restoration carried out with remarkable attention to detail. Every stage of the project was carefully documented, and we have an extensive photographic file tracing all the work, from bare chassis to final assembly. This particularly comprehensive file is available upon request.
The restoration covered the entire vehicle: chassis, bodywork with all panels renewed, engine completely overhauled and running gear rebuilt. The objective was not merely to restore this Healey's lustre, but to return to it all the qualities that built its reputation. This 3000 Mk III represents the ultimate evolution of the celebrated "Big Healeys" and remains the most refined version of the range. More sophisticated and more comfortable than previous generations, it is distinguished notably by its genuine centre console, its elegant timber-trimmed dashboard and more careful finishing, whilst never compromising its sporting character.
Beneath its long bonnet lies the legendary six-cylinder inline engine that delivers an enchanting exhaust note and authentic driving pleasure, typical of the great British roadsters of the 1960s. Its balance between performance, flexibility and feel makes it as enjoyable on winding roads as on long-distance cruises. A true icon of British motoring, this Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III today combines all the qualities sought by collectors: a particularly appealing original specification and a high-quality restoration. It represents a magnificent opportunity to acquire one of the finest British roadsters ever produced, elegantly combining the timeless charm of English sports cars with genuine driving pleasure.
