Description

NEW BRAKE BOOSTER: If it is DEFECTIVE: The ******* remains completely stiff and does not move a millimetre.
This new original part, designed for the Dolomite Sprint, fits perfectly between the pedal, the bulkhead and the
MASTER CYLINDER: (Girling system) of the Sprint is a critical safety component.
The first model was the most widely used; the second model appeared on models manufactured after 1978.
Here’s how to assess its mechanical condition: 1. The pressure test (internal leakage from the seals). This is the most common sign of a worn master cylinder (often referred to as a ‘spongy brake pedal’ or ‘brake pedal that sinks in’). With the engine switched off, press firmly on the brake pedal and maintain constant pressure for 30 to 45 seconds. If it is in GOOD CONDITION: The pedal must remain perfectly firm and locked at half-way. It must not move a single millimetre. If it is DEFECTIVE: The ******* sinks slowly and gently towards the floor whilst you maintain the same pressure. The internal rubber cups (seals) are worn or the cast-iron body is scratched: the brake fluid ‘leaks past’ the pistons instead of being sent to the wheels. The internal bore is scratched; for your safety, the master cylinder must be replaced in its entirety.
5-PORT BRAKE DISTRIBUTOR: This unit has 5 threaded ports and an electric solenoid: 3 outlets that distribute the fluid (usually two for the front left and right wheels, and one leading to the rear axle). The internal mechanism: Inside the distributor is a free-floating central piston (or shuttle), positioned between the front and rear circuits. Under normal conditions: When you brake, the pressure exerted is the same on both sides of the shuttle. The shuttle remains perfectly centred. The solenoid valve remains in the open position (indicator light off). In the event of a leak or a broken pipe: If the front circuit leaks, the pressure drops on one side of the unit when braking. The pressure in the rear circuit (which has remained intact) then pushes the shuttle towards the faulty side. As it moves, this mechanical shuttle engages the electrical switch located in the centre of the unit, which closes the ground circuit and illuminates the warning light on the dashboard to immediately alert the driver to a critical hazard.
The Triumph Dolomite Sprint’s brake load distributor regulates the hydraulic pressure sent to the rear brakes to prevent them from locking up, depending on the vehicle’s weight and body position.
