1976 MG Midget Roadster

***Vendor supplied images***

  • Presentable example that shouldn’t take much to make roadworthy once more
  • Appears to be very original and complete
  • Great potential as an entry level classic car project

The Appeal

Epitomising the plucky British sports car, the MG Midget brought the joys of open-top motoring to the masses, proving a good seller between 1961 and 1980. This rubber-bumpered 1976 example is presented for sale as a non-running project. As you can see, it is quite a smart little car that likely won’t require too much work in order to get it up and together.

If you’re looking for the next project car or perhaps are considering dipping your toes into classic car ownership, this Midget would be a great choice.

The History and Paperwork

  • Imported to the Netherlands from the US
  • We’re informed all the US paperwork remains with the car
  • EU VAT and import duties have been paid

The Interior

  • Looks to be in reasonable original condition
  • The vinyl seats are quite heavily patinated but appear intact
  • The carpet has been faded by the sun but could possibly be re-dyed
  • Some rudimentary repairs have been carried out to the dashboard with some tape
  • There isn’t much wear to the controls
  • The switchgear appears present and correct
  • Overall, the interior is mostly serviceable and with a little work, would look rather smart

The Exterior

  • The dark red paintwork presents well and is quite bright
  • While there is some ‘orange peel’ and a few runs, the paint is quite serviceable
  • The bodywork appears pretty straight with good panel fit
  • There are no obvious signs of corrosion so far as we could see
  • Sits upon its factory-correct wheels which are in fair condition
  • Luggage rack fitted to the bootlid
  • The rubber bumpers appear in good shape
  • All the light lenses, glass and trim look to be in good shape

The Mechanics

  • 1493cc Standard SC engine
  • Four-speed fully synchromesh gearbox
  • We’re informed that the engine turns freely but does not run which has been diagnosed as a wiring fault
  • The car’s mechanical condition is unknown, but good parts availability and a wealth of owner’s club knowledge should make sorting it out a fairly straightforward affair

This looks like a really fun little project and would be a great starter classic for budding enthusiasts.
