The Appeal
The Jaguar MK7 was introduced in 1951, and was one of the first from the brand to carry the now legendary XK engine. Originally released as a slight overseas gamble, the UK’s post-war economy recovered just in time - leading to the Brits embracing the big old four-door with gusto. The streamlined shape and quick, powerful power-plant made for a pretty exciting investment for daily drivers, and an impressive bit of race and rally hardware for the adrenaline junkies. It was a winner, through and through.
Previously owned by a French family, we don’t know an extraordinary amount about this car’s heritage. It’s not currently in running order thanks to several years in storage, however, the chassis and suspension are in solid condition, and a quick look over makes for an utterly superb opportunity for repair.
The History and Paperwork

The Interior
- A somewhat untidy but complete interior in need of some restoration

- Original dashboard instruments and controls all present
- Knobs and handles have been worn with pick-out print rubbed away
- Missing dashboard cover for stereo / radio

- Centre of steering wheel is missing
- Patina across the chromework with some pitting and darkening
- Carpets are worn but display fairly well
- Door cards show some staining and streaking, but no major damage
- Window frames show extensive pitting
- Overall, a solid vintage interior that shouldn’t take much to bring up to snuff
The Exterior
- Wedding White / Ivory finish
- Paintwork is largely in decent order, though some chips are visible
- We can discern some wear to the edges of the doors
- Some slight streaking / discoloration to the sills
- We can spot a little bit of bubbling on the rear wheel spats
- All panels appear to be tight and well put together with no mishapen areas we can spot
- Chromework on the body is relatively bright with some patina
- Front bumper is in a very sorry state with extensive chrome peel
- Rear bumper is better, but does show a deep patina
- Branding is all present and correct through does need a polish
- Wheels show some paint loss and patina, but look to be solid
- Tyres have a decent level of tread but have been standing for some time
- No cracked or missing headlight lenses
- Underneath, the car is in very good order for its age
- No major signs of corrosion to the suspension or chassis, just light wear
- Car has clearly been kept in good, dry storage
The Mechanics
- Not currently in running condition, though this fault hasn’t been examined
- Powered by the long-standing, very capable 3.4L XK straight-six
- Four-speed manual transmission
- Engine bay looks to be in good order, making a great opportunity for repair and restoration
Summary
The MK7 is an impressive car through and through, with everything from race victories to a rare level of luxury proudly in its heritage. With this example standing dry and dormant, you’re looking at a great opportunity to bring this classic back to life.
