- UK American Car Magazine cover star
The Appeal
Only the Americans would make a two-door coupé almost twenty feet long… If you drove a Cadillac Coupe de Ville, nobody was left in any doubt that you were successful, and so even as sixty year old classics, they remain the dream cars of many.
This second generation example has been on UK soil since 2004 and has since undergone a great deal of work to make it the unique custom car it is today. Most notable, it now sits upon high-tech air ride suspension. A magazine cover start back in May 2017, it has been finished to a high standard and maintained seemingly with no regard to cost by preeminent marque specialists.
For fans of highly individual classic Americana, this is surely a must-have.

The Interior
- Largely original aquamarine interior
- Retains bench seats front and rear
- All the upholstery matches and is in very good order overall
- Slight patina to the controls and switchgear from years of use
- Additional instruments, air ride control and a stereo all discreetly mounted beneath the dashboard
- The blue carpeting is a little discoloured and worn in places, yet remains eminently usable
- Some stickers have been added to the gearbox selector indicator to correspond with the different automatic transmission now fitted
- In the boot we find the air tank for the suspension as well as the main control unit
We heartily approve of how this Cadillac’s interior has been kept very original. It’s fair to say Cadillac got a lot right in period so it would be almost impossible to improve upon their retro-futuristic design. It is in fantastic condition, with a charming patina and all additional features have been fitted in a most sympathetic, non-invasive manner.
The Exterior
- Two-tone paint scheme in metallic blue with a white roof
- All the copious chrome would appear to be in excellent order
- Aftermarket alloy wheels with bright chrome finish
- Very straight bodywork
- Only light corrosion visible in a few isolated areas with a little paint bubbling
- Some crazing to the rear light lenses, although no damage we could see
- All the glass, badging and trim seems in good order
- The underside presents very well overall
The sheer size of this Cadillac is quite something to behold - especially in the UK where the roads are much narrower and therefore most cars much smaller than those found across the Atlantic. This Coupe de Ville is resplendent in its two-tone colour scheme which also complements the exterior of course. All is in very good overall condition with just a few small areas which could be tidied up if the next owner seeks perfection.
The Mechanics
- 6.2-litre V8 engine
- Various period Edelbrock performance parts fitted
- The automatic gearbox has been upgraded to a different unit since arrival in the UK
- We understand the new gearbox to be a Cadillac unit sourced from Summit Racing
- Reportedly running, driving and selecting gears exactly as it should
- Various invoices also show evidence of braking system overhauls, and these too are said to operate correctly
- The air ride suspension allows you to tailor the car’s stance as you see fit
A mere glance and the wealth of invoices supplied with this car show that a great deal of mechanical work has been carried out in recent years. Besides the air ride suspension which allows you to tailor the car’s stance to whatever you fancy, its engine, gearbox and brakes have all received lots of attention as well, resulting in a Cadillac that’s as good to drive as it is to look at.
Summary
This unique Cadillac is sure to turn heads wherever it goes and we love how it seamlessly blends originality with customisation. Here’s the chance to make it yours, so be sure not to let it slip through your fingers…
