The Appeal

The Land Rover is one of the cars that put British motoring on the global map. It’s known the world over and because of minimal style changes over the near 70 years of its production, it is instantly recognisable. The 109 Station Wagon was the range topper and was initially rated to carry 10, increasing to 12 following changes to the UK’s tax law.

The Land Rover has the hard-earned reputation for being unbeatable in many off-road situations and it has stood the company in good stead to build new and impressive systems to keep you going when the tarmac stops.

The History and Paperwork

  • 12 months MoT
  • This vehicle has been in one family from new only, despite the v5 showing some changes (all extended family)
  • The Land Rover has perhaps been off the road for some time but was at one point a loved family vehicle as shown in the family photographs present.
  • When bought new in 1981, the owner used to take his family to Europe on camping holidays hence the need for a Tachograph and the full roof rack.
  • An MOT document is present showing a test date of 2001 and an expiry date of 2002.

The Interior

  • Six seats up front and out back along with two rear benches, means there’s room for the whole family, and the extended family, and the pets, and the friends etc etc
  • The interior is in generally good condition, especially seat fabrics from what we can see, no rips or tears in the seats
  • Door cards do look a little worn here and there, especially driver’s side but nothing a retrim couldn’t sort out
  • Dashboard is in good condition, perhaps a little fading to the dash top but in otherwise relatively undamaged condition
  • Steering wheel and centre console section both in good condition too
  • Headlining not sagging, some minor discolouration but not serious from what we can see
  • Interior paintwork is in good condition too, with some areas in the door surrounds needing some attention for some corrosion
  • Designed to be sturdy and hard waring, it’s not surprising the interior has fared well over its 41 years

The Exterior

  • Bright yellow paintwork looks great from a short distance, whilst there are some scuffs and some small bumps around the bodywork it’s a hardy sturdy vehicle meant to tackle the offroad and for its 41 years, it is in good condition
  • The front, driver’s side wing has a small dent on the top of the straight panel but it’s not overtly noticeable unless looked for
  • The wheels are in great condition with very little visible corrosion and the tyres look to be in good order too with plenty of tread, including the spare
  • All sliding windows have kept very well with no visible scratches or chips
  • The trim around the car all seems to be present and correct apart from a rear spare possibly, the kickplates around the doors all fold down without issue and they also look to be structurally sound
  • The roof is in great condition from the looks of it and has few dents or issues to speak of no doubt the roof rack helping to protect it from wayward falling tree branches for instance
  • The frame also doesn’t seem to have any bends or damage or excessive corrosion either from the looks of things
  • All lights are reported to be working and the huge passenger wing mounted ariel helps the rugged off-road look

The Mechanics

  • All systems are reported to be working well including any drivetrain locks and the engine and gearbox, whilst not the prettiest of things to look at, run and drive
  • From what we could see, there were no exposed wires, split hoses or apparent fluids leaks during our photoshoot
  • The exhaust system didn’t appear to have any splits or leaks and whilst it did have some usual amount of surface rust, was reported to be in good condition structurally
  • The suspension and mechanical components visible from underneath the car can be seen in the photo gallery and to our mechanically untrained eyes didn’t appear to throw up any red flags, and indeed the vendor reports that they are all in good working order

Summary

This is a great looking Station Wagon, with enough room to cart around a large family and all their luggage and pets and the kitchen sink. Whilst it does need some TLC in places, this could be a very good purchase for those who are mechanically minded and who are after a rugged vehicle that can do it all and go anywhere. It might not be winning any show and shines, but that’s not exactly what these Land Rovers were designed for and for that reason this is a tempting prospect.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
