The Yamaha TZ500 was developed to allow private teams and individuals to enter and compete in the GP500 series, weighing around 130 Kilos and powered by a two-stroke 4-cylinder engine producing around 115 bhp, these bikes were quick round a racetrack and are a great piece of Yamaha racing history.
Yamaha didn’t make that many of these bikes and they were pretty much ready to go racing straight out of the crate, achieving great track success.
This particular example is a J Series model, the last of the line and features the reversed outer cylinders which allowed the 4 exhausts to be re-routed giving greater ground clearance than the previous 2 models.
Restored by classic race bike specialist Paul Boulton around 10 years ago this bike is believed to have been one of two bikes originally prepared by Dennis Trollope and supplied to GP500 rider Graham Wood and it wears his number 18 with pride.
Fully stripped down to its bare frame and then completely re-built and painted in its original racing livery this rare TZ500 was in a private collection since its restoration until last year when the current owner took it on and has used it for the odd track parade and taken it for a few laps round Brands Hatch and Donington race tracks.
Fabulous classic styling
Fully rebuilt cosmetically and mechanically
Ready to race or show
It’s a stunning looking machine that has seen little track use since its complete re-build and is a great all round example of Yamaha’s last production GP Racing bikes.
With the exception of the Dymag wheels, in place of the originally fitted spoke wheels, the bike has been re-built to maintain the originality of this legendary race machine and its original racing livery has been faithfully replicated to complete its period racing look.
Cosmetically it has a few small chips here and there on the easily removable painted bodywork but the tank is excellent as is the presentation of the rest of the bike, with everything looking in exceptionally fine condition.
Carburettors ultrasonically cleaned and completely re-built
Rebuilt suspension and brakes
New powervalve bushes and seals
New Avon tyres
New clutch plates
Magnesium clutch perch
Magnesium throttle housing
Magnesium AP master cylinder
Runs and rides superbly
In great condition this TZ500 is ready to go historic racing having been continued to be fettled by the current owner fitting new powervalve bushes and seals, fully re-building the brakes, fitting new Dave Swarbrick OE spec alloy silencers, and a new chain and tyres.
The bike starts and runs as it should providing an exhilarating ride as you would expect from a 500cc race prepared motorcycle from Yamaha.
A rare investment opportunity to own a beautifully restored and prepared iconic Yamaha TZ500 race bike that is ready to take racing or display at a show or as part of a collection.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.
£0 to £10,000
£10,000 to £50,000
£50,000 to £100,000
Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours. You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
