1991 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI G60

Highlights

  • Very good condition inside and out
  • Original BBS RA wheels
  • Hotter G60 variant including G60 supercharger
  • Imported from Spain in 2016
  • Long MoT – until March 2023

The Appeal

Often named the definitive hot hatch, the Mk2 Golf GTI is a legendary car, but with an additional supercharger, the GTI G60 is a force to be reckoned with. This three-door example finished in the factory red paint sat on the original BBS RA wheels is a pristine model on the surface that will impress any fan of the GTI moniker.

With several modifications made by VAG specialists Jabba Sport such as a Stage 4 Supercharger kit, a rally intercooler and adjustable KW V1 coil overs, this car is sure to outdo the factory 158hp and 8.3-second 0-60mph time.

The Interior

  • Excellent condition for its age
  • New carpets and mats
  • Left hand drive car

Jump in the car and you’ll notice the driver’s side is on the other side of the car, having been imported from Spain.

But with brand-new carpets and mats as well as pristine controls, that won’t matter one bit. The dashboard and centre console plastics are all as they should be while the steering wheel doesn’t look like it’s been used for the past 31 years nor does the iconic golf ball gear knob. And another part of the Golf’s interior that looks almost unused are the charming grey and red seats with even the driver’s seat looking in surprisingly near-perfect condition.

The owner makes a point of the original stereo system still being fitted giving the cabin a true feel of the late-eighties and early-nineties.

The Exterior

  • Traditional GTI red paint with black accents spec
  • Original BBS RA wheels still fitted to the car
  • Exterior for the most part unharmed by British salted roads

The first few generations of the Golf GTI are best remembered in the iconic red paint that adorns this car along with the black plastic bumpers making for an excellent specification. Combined with the memorable, boxy design and deep-dish BBS RA wheels originally fitted to the car make for a true child of the early nineties.

Despite spending a lot of its life under the Spanish sun, the car’s plastic bumpers don’t seem to have faded. And thanks to its early life abroad, the car’s underside doesn’t have anywhere near the levels of corrosion one would expect from a car of its age. However, there are some scratches to the rear.

The Mechanics

  • Runs without issue
  • Very clean engine bay
  • Stage 4 supercharger by Jabba Sport
  • Aftermarket Jetex exhaust
  • Various modifications all completed by VW specialist

Under the bonnet is a very clean example of the supercharged 1.8-litre inline-four engine that powers the GTI G60. According to the owner, the car runs as it should and, thanks to a list of modifications, will outdo most other Mk2 Golf GTIs.

A Jabba Sport Stage 4 modification has been made to the supercharger while they also tuned the ECU. A Schrick camshaft and rally intercooler have also been fitted to the engine and a Jetex exhaust provides a new soundtrack. The coil overs are now adjustable KW V1s.

Summary

Imported from Spain, this Mk2 Golf GTI benefits from the G60 supercharger as well as several performance-enhancing modifications. No-one would guess the extra potential of this example from outside being a very clean car visually. With relatively low mileage and next-to-no signs of just how old this car is, it has to be an excellent taste of what’s often dubbed the best hot hatch ever made.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are Commission bids?

A commission bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
