The Appeal

 
If you like to travel great distances in fine luxury then the XK8 certainly fulfils on both those levels. It’s super sharp looks, somewhat reminiscent of the E-type glory days is a great example of a nineties Grand Tourer, providing comfort and ample power from its 4.0 litre 32-valve V8 engine. The early models, of which this is, appear to be gathering significant interest, mainly as so many of them have now disappeared from the roads altogether.
 
Purchased by the current owner 17 years ago as a second car, it’s been used in the summer months only, enjoying occasional trips to the continent and tours of the UK averaging 2,000 to 3000 miles a year. As an engineer he has maintained the car himself, changing the oil, filters, etc. every year and carrying out routine maintenance as and when required. Now having reached an age where getting into and out of such low cars isn’t as easy as it once was, the car needs to find a new home.

The Interior


  • Original beige leather interior is free from any rips or tears and has usual signs of wear commensurate with the cars age and mileage, particularly to the drivers bolster and the centre armrest
  • Dashboard and trim are free from any cracks or damage 
  • Electric and heated seats, however the drivers electric control module has partially failed - the seat back tilt control does not operate unless powered directly. This has not been done as the seat tilt is suited to the owner
  • All other electric functions are in working order
  • The drivers hand operated tilt latch has lost its plastic trim so will need to be replaced
  • The driver’s window guides within the door are out of alignment which causes the glass to bind when going up. The vendor advises the door panel will need to be removed and the guides adjusted 
  • The plastic trim to the J Gate gear-lever is cracked 
  • Panels and shut lines all appear straight and true

The Exterior


  • Original Ice Blue Metallic paintwork is generally in good condition with no dents or dings. However, there are numerous stone chips to the front and a few scratches here and there around the bodywork
  • The sills and wheel arches are all sound, the sills having been replaced in 2018
  • The exception is the appearance of corrosion in the rear offside wing behind the wheel arch
  • The black paint finish to the top of the doors and rear section of the cockpit is flaking off
  • Original alloy wheels are in good shape but have been kerbed in a few places
  • Three of the tyres have good tread but the rear offside tyre is a little worn
  • Lights all work and are free from any cracks or damage
  • Roof is in good condition but would benefit from a good clean which the owner says he will have done prior to sale
 
 

The Mechanics


  • 4.0 litre 24-valve V8 engine
  • 5-speed automatic gearbox
  • Nice and clean engine bay
  • The air bag control module was replaced in August 2022
  • Gearbox drained, flushed and replacement sump fitted September 2021
  • Recent oil and filters change
  • Spark plugs replaced December 2022
  • The vendor advises that the car is in excellent mechanical shape, starting on the button, accelerating when required and pulling through all the gears smoothly
