The Appeal
Yes, the V12 DB7 has the turbine heft, but there’s a strong argument for the 3.2L car. The engine is based on Jaguar’s highly durable AJ6, it’s much rarer, with just 1,605 coupes, and then, of course, every time you press the pedal to the Wilton, you get that characteristic supercharger whine.
Here is a really nicely preserved early 3.2L in the popular combination of Orkney Grey metallic with black leather and walnut trim. No DB7 is ordinary, but this one is extra special. It let the factory with the rare Driving Dynamics front and rear brake upgrade plus the ultra lightweight OZ Racing five spoke alloys you see in the photos. It has subsequently been fitted with a factory sports exhaust system. The eagle-eyed may already have spotted the desirable Chiltern Aston rear light conversion, which does away with the lowly Mazda 323F units in favour of a quartet referencing Aston’s earlier V8 Vantage. Other Chiltern additions include V12 style stainless steel slatted front grille and colour coded engine beautification panels. The firm also fitted colour coded rear parking sensors, boot mounted umbrella and an auto dimming rear view mirror.
It is a low mileage car showing under 37,000 miles. The condition reflects it, with even high traffic areas such as the driver’s footwell and seat bolster presenting well. The typed service history shows regular servicing to 31,400. Since 2001 the car has been attended to by specialists Chiltern Aston, whose name is on the car’s plates. The last service was in 2017, but the current MOT runs to May 2027 with a single minor advisory.
The DB7 is one of the most beautiful cars of the last 30 years and the 3.2L model is the canny choice. This one looks in good order.
