1999 Aston Martin DB7 Volante

Highlights

  • Lovely specification
  • Genuine low mileage
  • V12 drivetrain

The Appeal

When Aston Martin released the DB7, it was a foregone conclusion that, sooner or later, it would get a V12. When it did, in the form of the Vantage, it was unsurprisingly a massive hit. The combination of a smooth V12 and Aston’s handcrafted style was a marriage made in heaven.

Here we have a convertible (Volante) model, finished in a very smart green over beige colour scheme and benefitting from genuinely low mileage. Even today, there’s not much as desirable as the big Aston.

The Interior

  • Parchment Connolly leather with green piping
  • Alpine DAB radio/CD system with 6CD changer
  • Electric windows and door mirrors
  • Heated, electrically adjustable front seats
  • Air conditioning

Trimmed in classically high-grade Connolly leather twinned with burr walnut veneer, the interior of this Volante is opulent and beautifully appointed. The leather itself is Parchment (a light beige) with green secondary leather and piping. It presents in very good condition, with only the front seats really showing any signs of wear. The rear seats, door cards and dash all remain in excellent condition. However, the fronts are showing some wear, particularly the driver’s side, where there is a little more creasing and cracking and the outer squab bolster appears to have lost some rigidity.

All of the controls, switchgear and instruments appear in fine condition, with legible graphics, no evidence of significant wear and no damage, So too, the burr walnut veneer is clean and neat, with no signs of UV damage, warping or delamination that we could see.

Colour coordinated green carpets and matching Aston Martin overmats finish off the cabin, presenting in very good order, with no staining or damage evident to us.

We’re assured by the owner that all of the car’s features function perfectly, with no issues that they are aware of.

The Exterior

  • Metallic Green paintwork
  • Optional mesh grille
  • 10-spoke Aston Martin alloy wheels

Complementing that smart interior is the lovely metallic green paintwork and matched fabric hood. The paint looks to be in fine fettle, with no notable damage, corrosion or significant blemishes evident. Similarly, the bodywork appears to be straight, dent free and very well kept.

This Volante rides on stylish 10-spoke 18” alloy wheels. Shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres which look to have good tread on them, they suit the car perfectly, appearing sporty but elegant. They are wearing some blemishes and marks, as well as some signs of the paint and lacquer beginning to bubble in places, but nothing that would worry us.

As this is a Volante model, the roof is an electrically operated fabric item. Finished in a complementary shade of green with a mohair lining, it looks well fitted and neat, with no signs of UV damage or tears that we could observe.

The Mechanics

  • 5,935cc V12 engine
  • 5-speed ZF automatic transmission
  • Switchable sport mode

Of course, the heart of any GT car is the engine - and that hearty 6-litre naturally aspirated V12 provides Magnums of charisma and drama. Smooth, powerful and sonorous, it’s the perfect drivetrain for a convertible GT, providing the kind of drive most of us can only dream of.

Serving up a meaty 420bhp and 400lb/ft to the rear wheels, and with an electronic limiter cutting in at 165mph, it’s an eminently capable and thrilling machine.

But it’s not all about power. The Vantage comes equipped with Brembo brakes and fully independent double wishbone suspension front and rear, ensuring the ride and driving experience lives up to the aesthetics and soundtrack.

We’re assured by the vendor that the car is mechanically spot-on and drives just as it should. Acceleration is described as “excellent”, while the gearchanges are “effortless” and the exhaust note “fantastic”. They tell us there are no leaks, no smoke when running and no unusual noises or vibrations.

Summary

The DB7 has gone down in legend as the car that saved Aston Martin. But it’s much more than that, it’s a very fine car in its own right. Beautiful, possessed of a spine-tingling V12 drivetrain and finished in a delightful colour scheme, this Volante makes a very fine case for itself.

If you’re looking for a comfortable, powerful and electrifying grand tourer, this very pretty Aston Martin should definitely be one to watch…

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
