The Appeal
In the early Noughties, the hot hatch market was, well, hotting up, notably with the Focus RS and the Golf R. Into the mix came Alfa Romeo with its pretty 147. Where its rivals majored on tech, the Milanese firm went with character, which was mainly delivered by the car’s superlative ‘Busso’ V6.
Giuseppe’s crackling powerplant, here in 3.2L output, was good for 250bhp, giving the 147 the pace to match its rivals. Reviewers felt the standard car needed a little work, which likely explains why this very smart 2003 GTA now features Eibach springs, Koni shocks and a Q2 diff. The eagle-eyed will also spot a short shifter, braided hoses, Autodelta pipework and a Black Edition wheel.
Enthusiasts will also note that the GTA was never available in this car’s Misano Blue. The paint was applied as part of a full restoration and respray of the glass. Less obviously, the car has received a full engine rebuild in recent years.
The 147 GTA is one of Alfa’s modern gems. With current MOT runs to February 2027, this one is ready to enjoy.
