I will begin with the story of how the car came to be in my possession. Apparently it used to belong to a gentleman who owned a farm and had no driving licence himself. He was driven around in it by his friend and only used it himself on his own land. At some point in 1980/ 1981 ( the last time it was taxed ) it was put in a garage and basically just left there. The garage door was then blocked up with a pile of gravel and the car was forgotten about. After the gentleman died and his daughter cleared away the door she found the car that even she did not know existed. It was then sold to a dealer in Sheffield who did nothing to it and put it on eBay. That is how I came into possession of it with no log book and hardly any original paperwork. This means the car has only had one previous owner, and even though I had to jump through hoops to get a new V5 in my name (as even DVLA had lost all details) I now have one. This car had its MOT on 23rd March 2018 even though I knew it was soon to become MOT exempt. Of course the vehicle is also Tax free and qualifies for classic car insurance.
It has taken about 8 months to restore the car to this stage and have put my heart and soul ( not to mention blood, sweat and tears ! ) into making this car live again. I have been very particular in only using original parts or restoring existing parts. The engine was seized solid and even though I wanted to fix this myself I reluctantly had to concede it was too much for me, so it went to Arnets of Doncaster for a rebuild.
Some of the other work that has been done includes a new clutch, carburettor rebuild, fuel pump rebuild, fuel tank decontamination, timing belt, fan belt, battery, steering rack, all of the ignition system, air filter, axle oil, gearbox oil, engine oil, brake disks , various seal kits... etc etc . The car is tuned well ... runs and pulls great, no issues with engine, gear box or axle noise. A short test drive will expel any concerns about anything. The interior is exceptional for a car this age. It is a thirsty beast at only 20 to 25 mpg but that is in line with the original specs. No overheating and although these cars were renowned for oil leaks all the main problem areas have been attended to. I also have plenty of spare gaskets and seals which would be included with the spare parts. I have acquired quite a few spare parts during this project and would include them in the sale.
The paintwork is not perfect as I have been trying to save as much of the originality as possible. You have to be quite close to notice the imperfections though and if I end up keeping it I will not be doing anything further to it. I personally think a re spray would take away the essence of what this car has become. There has been a lot of welding and there is still some surface rust to the underside. But everything is now solid and one of the few jobs left would be to recommend a good under sealing where needed . So long as the car is kept garaged and only used on dry days I cannot see this being a problem.
Reason for sale is I now want another project while I am still fit enough as this has been one of the most enjoyable things I have been involved with for years. I have fallen in love with the car so I don’t really mind if it does not sell, but I have no room for any more vehicles as anyone who wishes to view will see.
It has a period working 8 Track tape player, and has been fitted without any damage at all to the interior.
Apparently there are only 8 of these cars left on the road 4 sorn in the uk ( including this one ). It is also like stepping back in time to sit in and drive. I would like this to go to a good home and be treated to a few more minor touch ups ( if thought necessary). But anything left to do now would just be down to personal taste.

You would be hard pushed to find one of these cars in such an original unmolested condition, and it’s very rare to find one that is usable as it is with no need to do anything but enjoy it from day 1.
If this vehicle was totally stripped down and rebuilt with concourse condition in mind, I have seen similar advertised at over £12, 000. There is no way a car of this nature will depreciate in value, and only has close to 16, 000 miles on the clock ( which I am sure is genuine even though I can not prove it ).
