Description

The reluctant Sale of RM1620 due to sudden recent changes in family circumstances. A truly magnificent rare original 1963 London Transport Routemaster with original number plate of 620DYE. Fully restored in her fabulous original 60s red livery, now in showroom as new condition. She has the AEC 590 AV590 9ltr engine, original type gearbox etc. All underside re-greased and fully inspected for leaks etc just last weekend. An Mot class 5 has recently been issued. She has a COIF certificate, new batteries, Moquette fabric fitted on the saloon seats around two years ago. The drivers seat also has been re trimmed in black leatherette recently. The divers cab has undergone some tlc and been lovingly & carefully restored/ refurbished both cab front windows open and both handles still present. The bus has recently undergone a full professional respray from London Bus and Truck Ltd, they do one of the best paint jobs in the business. All original features detail and trim present, plus period adverts all round really make the bus very special. This bus is not one of those replica rebuild vehicles. This is a vehicle that escaped the LT upgrade project, so has never been tampered with. All electronics and mechanics work excellently as they should and tyres are all fine.

Brief History
New to London Transport Muswell Hill garage in June 1963 for routes 43 102 and route 134. RM1620 went to various garages until she was picked to go to live Canada 1983 as a seasonal tour bus, So 1620 has had a very good gentle life so far.
The LT chief Sales Department engineer was looking for two better than average RMs to send to his friends Con and Shirley Murphy in Abegweit Prince Edward Island Canada in 1983. For many years this engineer had been going there each April to service their fleet of RTs ready for the new season. The Murphys were looking to buy a couple of RMs to join their fleet, hence great care being taken to choose the best and better than average available buses. So RM buses RM1371 and RM1620 were picked to go to Aldenham for overhaul, the first buses from the department to have such a treatment, then sent on their way, first to a show in New York ( The Festival of Britain 1983, which was attended by Prince Charles and Diana) and then on travelling to Prince Edward Island. There she spent nearly 30 years. RM1620 returned home to the UK in May 2010 together with the whole Abegweit tour fleet of nine RTs/ RTLs and the other Routemaster RM1371 they were purchased by London bus and Truck Ltd. RM1620 has been in my ownership since late 2013 and I have had the pleasure and honour of owning her and respectfully restoring her to the outstanding show bus condition she is today. She now lives as a resident persevered Routemaster in Kirkby Liverpool.

Iam looking for £51, 500 (no VAT) priced to sell for this fabulous vehicle. Not many around now looking as good with original detail and finer points for this price. It’s amazing how the prices keep increasing & rising for anything associated with a Routemaster.

Any inspections very welcome and all your questions and queries answered.

Many thanks Paul
