This car is being sold on the basis that it will need work to get back on the road again but is by no means a rotten basket case. It is a one previous owner car and has covered a genuine 59600 miles.
It has been off the road for the last 13 years so does need a thorough going through to get it back on the road safely
It starts perfectly and drives back and forwards for loading purposes but is not road worthy, so will need recovering. It will also require a new battery.
It is a Historic registered vehicle and is MOT and tax exempt being a 45 year old car.
Hpi clear.
Arguably finished in the best and rarest of the 3 colours "tomato red" (more orange than red) I believe there are only about 80 tomato red Beetle GTs left in existence
I purchased it with the full intention of carrying out a full restoration to bring it back to "as new" condition as I had a GT Beetle in my youth. However a very recent unexpected opportunity to restore my dream car means that I have to reluctantly sell the Beetle as I cannot restore two.
Details:
This is a low mileage 1 previous owner car which is totally original. It has not been messed around with or poorly "patched up" in its life.
It still has ALL ITS ORIGINAL GT features:
Original black metal dash with no cracks in the additional GT padding
GT centre console tray,
original 1300S engine lid badge
Original wood GT sports gear shift,
Original 4½J Lemmerz wheels with original centre caps and all 16 wheel bolt caps.
Original VW “Be” stamped windscreen
Original beige cloth seats and all interior fittings. The cloth is unusually good for a GT Beetle, but the back seat would need repairing and a small repair to the bolster of the driver’s seat.
Original Blaupunkt radio
Original drivers and passengers chrome door mirrors
Rare dealer fitted front and rear bumper over riders (The original VW bumpers are now pitted and have surface rust however they are not dented or damaged and could easily be re chromed to keep originality )
original GT 4 speed manual sports ratio gearbox (fully working and changing gears as it should)
Original 1600cc air cooled engine (starts on the button and runs really well with no nasty oil leaks)
GT disc front brakes
Original Volkswagen owners Operation and maintenance (not stamped) manual still in an immaculate blue "VW instruction manual wallet" with salesman’s business card.
Original 1972 "hot property" GT brochure
2 keys
It has been dry stored and off the road for 13 years being periodically started and run.
It was manufactured October 1972 and 1st registered 12th February 1973 and was last on the road in 2005, I have the MOT from 2005 when the car had covered 59305 miles.
The car is fundamentally very sound. The engine and gearbox are excellent.
Body Condition
All 4 wings are beyond repair and will need replacing, (4 new European manufactured wings and new offside running board and trim strip are provided free of charge to the new owner}
Both doors, bonnet, boot and rear valance are excellent (see pics)
The roof is fantastic and there is no rust around the front or rear screen
The "A" and "C" post are also excellent and totally with no rusting
Front quarter panels are both excellent
Under the bonnet is all in good order as is the engine bay area and the spare front wheel carrier is in sound condition. Comes with original boot liner card, jack, spare wheel and pneumatic washer bottle and carrier.
The floorpans and jacking points are generally excellent having been undersealed from new.
It will require work to the rear quarter panels where they meet the rear wings, patches of inner wheel arches where they join the heater channels, and both heater channels require repairs.
The headlining is excellent but there is one small tear.
As mentioned, this is a car for the true GT Beetle aficionados. You will not find a more original and complete GT Beetle. It deserves someone to dedicate time and effort to bring this very rare and original special car back to its former glory.
1st serious buyer who appreciates what this car is, and the investment potential it has, will buy it.
Without doubt, this will be one of the best Beetle GTs left in the UK when renovated.
