Description

Time to sell my much loved Mk1 Gti as sadly I don't drive it enough these days.

It is in excellent condition, rust free with just 1 previous owner! This is not a car that has been messed about with at any point in it's long life. It has full service history, and tons of history, looks as it should and drives beautifully.

This was bought by me 13 years ago from Wagenwheels in Southampton - and they have had regular oversight of it's upkeep and maintenance throughout my ownership, including restoration work undertaken around 18 months ago.

It is not the campaign model, but slightly predates those (1983) and is in my opinion the perfect package in that it has the best colour and minimal spec - no sunroof (stiffer, and less chance of water ingress issues), single headlamp grill, original 9 spoke wheels, and tinted glass.

The resto work finished end of 2017 included full (engine in) respray and bodywork, underseal, seat repairs, gearbox and linkages overhaul, new clutch, re-inforced bulkhead for clutch cable, new engine mounts, and wheels restored and painted. It's also recently had a replacement battery, and full long service (with cam belt).

Panels are original, bonnet and tailgate were replaced from donor cars (i. e. all original VAG).

It passed it's MOT in May so lots on that left.

The original radio is also included but not fitted, but I have misplaced one of the plastic fixings covers which is annoying. The MFA/ digital dashboard works!

So the not so good bits.

- There is a very small tear in the headlining.
- Mileage is high at 199, 000 but I do have heaps of history to prove it was well maintained throughout those miles! I was told the previous owner did have the engine re-built, but think this must have been done undocumented as a VAT dodge so I can't verify.
- The rear parcel shelf rubber lid fixings have perished, and there is some minor damage to the shelf itself (you have to look hard though)

Otherwise this is a fantastic car, amazing to drive, it lives up to the VW reputation for reliability, and I will be gutted to see it go.
